What are the two electric motors fitted in the E:HEV technology?
The e:HEV technology is made up of two electric mills namely the traction and generator motors. How was the E:HEV technology unveiled?
The technology was launched in the country via the introduction of the sixth-generation Honda CR-V in 2023.But while it has been in the country for some time, many are still eager to learn more about the technology as it comes with tons of benefits. So how does the full-hybrid system work?
What is E:HEV?
Honda’s e:HEV is made up of two electric mills namely the traction and generator motors, which can deliver as much as a little over 181 horsepower (hp) and 335 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. The system fitted in the Honda CR-V 2.0 RS e:HEV is matched to a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter Direct Injection Atkinson Cycle engine — which has a peak performance of 146 hp and 183 Nm.
Operating throughout the low- to high-speed range, the said motor can be utilized in three driving modes namely EV (solely running on battery power), hybrid (engine primarily acts as a generator to supply power to the battery and traction motor), and engine drive mode (purely running on internal combustion engine).
The e:HEV system also has a regenerative braking system that can harvest energy lost from braking and deceleration. The said technology uses the traction motor to recover friction losses, extending the car’s electric power range and further optimize fuel economy.
In addition, the engine can also aid in recharging the battery by acting as a generator.
According to HCPI, the e:HEV is part of the company’s string of initiatives to help reach the global goal of carbon neutrality through zero environmental impact by 2050.
During a test drive, Zigwheels Philippines was able to clock in 20-kilometers-per-liter consumption after covering 600 kilometers of highways and expressways.
“It is valuable to Honda to continue to be a company that society wants to exist by continuing to provide mobility solutions that are practical and meaningful to the communities it serves. Through the e:HEV technology, the company strengthens its commitment to this, and marks just the start of more improvements like this to come,” HCPI said in a statement.
To recall, the e:HEV technology was introduced to local shores last year with the introduction of the sixth-generation Honda CR-V RS variant. The said model was also fitted with another brand-specific technology, the Honda SENSING safety driver-assist system that is comprised of the following features:
- adaptive cruise control
- low-speed follow
- collision mitigation braking system
- lane keeping assist system with road mitigation warning
- forward collision warning
- lane departure warning
- auto high beam
- adaptive driving beam
- lead car departure warning
In addition, the model also served as the launch pad for the Honda CONNECT, which gives the owner remote access to the car’s features for enhanced safety, security, and convenience. Through Honda CONNECT, owners enjoy speed alert technology, Find My Car, emergency calls, among others.
The all-new Honda CR-V 2.0 RS e:HEV E-CVT variant comes with all the said features as well as an eight-year or 200,000-kilometer battery warranty (whichever comes first).
