Mitsubishi Mirage G4 vs Chevrolet Sail - The sedans go neck-to-neck

Mitsubishi Mirage G4 vs Chevrolet Sail - The sedans go neck-to-neck

The total number of vehicles present on the road in the Philippines is growing day by day. Out of these vehicles, a large portion is occupied by sedans. Even though this increase in the number of vehicles is causing congestion and traffic jams, it’s a boon for car manufacturers. The growing demand for sedans has caused the competition in this category to increase tremendously. Two sedans that offer a lot for their price and go neck-to-neck are the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and Chevrolet Sail.

Exterior

Both the cars in question are handsome-looking. There are some features that make one stand out from the other. The Mirage G4 has got a single piece black front grille with Mitsubishi’s beautiful logo in the middle. The design of its large headlamps blends in perfectly with the contour lines on the bonnet. There’s a nice chrome treatment near the fog lamps which get black surrounds. The side of the car gets a couple of character lines which along with the design of the alloy wheels keep the style quotient up to the mark. Nothing much is happening at the rear of the Mirage G4, it looks calm and composed.

Chevrolet Sail has got a two-piece front grille with a hint of chrome that adds to its beauty. The brand logo is sandwiched between the two grilles. The design of the headlights, bonnet, and the front bumper makes the Sail a bit sportier to look at. The character line on the side profile of the Sail passes through the door handles and continues till the rear end, where things are as interesting as we’ve seen at the front. Overall, the Sail has got a bold and energetic appearance.

Interior

The interior color combination of the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 makes it an interesting place to be in, but it fails to provide a sporty-feeling. There’s ample amount space for all the occupants to move around. It can accommodate 5 people. The instrument console is informative and easily readable. There’s an option to get a 6.5-inch touchscreen display that allows controlling various functions like audio, connectivity, navigation, etc.

On the other hand, the interior of the Chevrolet Sail features jet-black color with silver accents which surely adds to the sportiness of the car. The steering wheel has got a nice shape and feel, and the silver accents are here as well. The instrument cluster behind the wheel is proportionate and also has a MID for showing different data. However, the Sail doesn’t have a touchscreen display, which is a bummer, but you do get a basic infotainment system. The Sail can accommodate 4-5 people easily without sacrificing comfort.

Engine

On the engine front, the Mirage G4 is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine with Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control System (MIVEC). It churns out a max power of 78 PS at 6,000 revs and generates 100 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 revs. You can either pick a 5-speed manual gearbox or go for CVT. The engine isn’t the best one out there, but because of the Mirage G4’s lightweight and aerodynamic design, it pulls the car to a top speed of 172 kmph, and delivers a fuel efficiency of 21 kmpl.

The Chevrolet Sail comes with two engine options for the Philippines market. The first one is a 1.3-litre VVT petrol engine that has been tuned to produce 101 PS of max power at 6,000 rpm and 127 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The other engine is a 1.5-litRE unit with 100 PS on tap at 6,000 rpm and generates 141 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Unlike the 1.3-litrE engine, this is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission with Active Select Manual Mode.

Safety features

It’s disappointing to know that the Mirage G4 doesn’t have basic safety features as standard across all its variants. The base model misses out on ABS, ISOFIX, and even a reverse camera. On the other hand, Chevrolet Sail has got ABS with EBD, driver and passenger airbags, and ISOFIX as standard and the rear parking sensor is available only in the top-end model.

Price and color options

The starting price of the Mirage G4 is Php 584,000 and it goes all the way up to Php 867,000 depending on the variant you pick. It comes in 9 color options - Wine Red, Cool Silver, Pyrenese Black, Savanna White, Virgil Gray, Aurora White, Majestic Red, Medium Blue Mica, and Sunrise Orange.

There are only three variants of the Sail. The base model costs Php 791,888, the mid-range model is priced at Php 865,888, and the top-end model will set you back by Php 917,888. All the three variants are available in 6 colors - Agate Red, Black Meet Kettle, Blue Sky, Galaxy Silver, Summit White, and Syracuse.

Now that you know both the sedans in detail which one will you pick? Is it the sporty looking and affordable Mirage or the performance packed and safety ensuring Sail.
