Sedan showdown: Kia Soluto vs. Changan Alsvin

The country’s sedan segment has plenty of models to offer. Two of them are the Kia Soluto and the Changan Alsvin.

On that note, we’re going to pit these cars against each other to find out which among them is the better ride for you.

Weigh-ins

The Kia Soluto measures 4,300 millimeters (mm) long, 1,700mm wide, and 1,460mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,570mm and a minimum ground clearance of 150mm.

As for the Changan Alsvin, it has an overall length of 4,390mm, an overall width of 1,725mm, and an overall height of 1,490mm. It has a wheelbase of 2,535mm and clears the ground by 150mm.

Exterior

Outside, the South Korean wears a pair of halogen headlamps and standard front fog lamps, which flank its sleek tiger nose grille. To its side are body-colored side mirrors, body-colored door handles, and 14-inch wheels. Its rear end gets standard combination lamps and standard fog lamps.

Meanwhile, the Chinese flaunt two sleek-looking headlights and two daytime running lights that surround its Butterfly Wing radiator grille. The side profile of the car offers body-toned side mirrors and door handles and rides on 14-inch wheels. The rear of the car offers taillamps that mimic the looks of what one can find at the front.

Overall, both sedans provide their would-be owners with nearly identical exterior features. That said, we will call this round a tie.

Interior

The Kia Soluto comes with a decent interior and boasts appointments like leatherette seats, a leather shift knob, a leather steering wheel, a standard instrument panel with a digital screen, and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that has Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

On the other hand, the Changan Alsvin gets premium leather seats, a power sunroof, an instrument cluster with digital gauges, and a seven-inch infotainment system with a touchscreen display.

Despite having a neck-and-neck battle, we will give this round to the Kia Soluto as its interior appointments offer a more robust list of features.

Engine

Powering the Kia Soluto is a 1.4-liter gasoline engine mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission. The said setup makes as much as 93 horsepower with 132 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.

Not to be outdone, the Changan Alsvin can be had with either a 1.4- or a 1.5-liter mill paired with a five-speed manual transmission or a five-speed manual slushbox. It makes up to 105 horses with 145Nm of pulling power.

For this round, the winner is the Changan Alsvin.

Safety

When it comes to safety, the Kia Soluto is equipped with technologies like airbags and seatbelts, an anti-lock brake system, a rear camera, and parking sensors.

As for the Changan Alsvin, it gets a blind spot camera, hill hold control, and an electronic stability system.

With almost similar safety features, we’re calling this round another tie.

Verdict

Choosing between the Kia Soluto and the Changan Alsvin will be a matter of preference for many car buyers. The former offers a better interior while the latter can be had with a more powerful engine. In all other aspects, they have almost the safe set of appointments making this sedan showdown a tightly contested battle.
