The pros and cons of the all-new Honda CR-V

As one of the leading compact sports utility vehicles (SUV) in the market, the Honda CR-V offers a range of features and benefits that appeal to a wide range of drivers.

The recent launch of the sixth-generation CR-V introduced more innovative features and technologies that make this SUV stand out in its class.

However, like any vehicle, it has its strengths and weaknesses. Let’s explore the pros and cons of the Honda CR-V.

Pros

Hybrid powertrain

The e:HEV technology of the Honda CR-V combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine with two electric motors — the Traction Motor and the Generator Motor. The gasoline engine delivers up to 148 horsepower (hp) and 183 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque, while the electric motors produce as much as 184hp and 335Nm of pulling power.

The e:HEV system can recover energy from braking and deceleration and  friction losses that would otherwise be wasted through its regenerative braking system and traction motor.

Aside from the e:HEV variant, the all-new Honda CR-V is also available in two internal combustion engine-powered variants, the V Turbo and the VX Turbo AWD.

Spacious and versatile interior

The Honda CR-V offers a spacious and versatile interior, providing ample legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers. The flexible seating arrangement and generous cargo space make it an ideal choice for families, road trips, and hauling large items.

Up to five passengers can be accommodated inside the hybrid model, while the gas-powered variants can seat up to seven passengers.

Advanced technology features

Equipped with advanced technology features, the CR-V enhances the driving experience and convenience for its users. Features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, 12-speaker Bose premium audio system and Honda Sensing driver-assistive technology ensure that drivers and passengers stay connected, entertained, and safe on the road.

The CR-V also comes with Honda Connect that gives users a seamless connection with their vehicles through a smartphone app.

Fuel efficiency

In a country where fuel prices can be high, the Honda CR-V stands out for its fuel efficiency. The efficient powertrain and smart engineering contribute to better fuel economy, allowing drivers to save money on fuel expenses during daily commutes or long drives.

The RS e:HEV variant achieved a fuel efficiency of 29.4 kilometers per liter (kpl) in urban driving, while the petrol variants have a fuel economy rating of 16.4kpl.

Cons

High price range

While the Honda CR-V offers excellent features and quality, its higher price range compared to some of its competitors may be a deterrent for budget-conscious buyers. However, the higher price is often justified by the CR-V’s overall value and performance.

The base variant of the CR-V is priced at P2.1 million, while the top-of-the-line hybrid variant retails for P2.59 million.

Limited off-road capability

Although the CR-V is a capable SUV for everyday driving and light off-roading, it may not satisfy the needs of off-road enthusiasts seeking more rugged capabilities.

Its focus on comfort and versatility makes it a better fit for urban and suburban lifestyles rather than extreme off-road adventures.

Verdict

With its efficient performance, spacious interior, advanced technology features, and strong safety ratings, the Honda CR-V offers a combination of practicality and comfort. While it may have some drawbacks such as a higher price range and limited off-road capability, these can be outweighed by its numerous advantages.
