Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo : Generations
MANILA: Based on the same Innovative International Multi-Purpose vehicle platform as the Hilux and Innova, Toyota Fortuner made its international debut in 2005. Combining a sporty exterior and luxurious the Fortuner has made its name as a largely popular mass market SUV in several parts across Asia and the Americas. Till date the SUV series by Toyota has seen two generations and several facelifts and improvements. With the latest model being launched last year, Toyota have decided to upgrade its performance and looks even further by releasing the TRD Sportivo upgrade to the 2016 Fortuner. The 2016 Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo vehicle will make its debut presence in the Philippines at the Manila International Auto Show and is certain to get tons of attention. With less than a month to go before the event starts, let's take a look at some of the notable models for the Toyota Fortuner.
Fortuner 2005
Placed between the Land Cruiser and the RAV4, the Fortuner was an instant hit due to its evidently larger size than the competitors in its class. As the vehicle shared its platform with that of a pickup truck, it became a favorite in populated regions such as Asia Pacific and East Asia where larger sized automobiles are a necessity. Its design however was panned for not being aerodynamic and made the vehicle extremely shaky at high speeds.
Fortuner 2008
The Fortuner was re-launched in 2008 and was provided with several notable changes to the vehicle’s exterior and introduced the TRD bodykit to the vehicle for the first time. The updated features include projector headlamps, a redesigned grille and numerous additions on the inside. It was also outfitted with the latest safety technologies such as ABS, EBD with the appearance of an all-wheel-drive for the first time.
Fortuner 2011
It seems that the manufacturers weren’t really impressed with the changes they made on the 2008 model and presented yet another facelifted Fortuner in 2011. The new Fortuner not only gave the vehicle a new face but also increased its overall length, while setting the ground clearance a little low. It also introduced a Turbocharged drivetrain to the Fortuner for the first time. Exterior changes included a new hood with intake scoop, new front grille and radiator mesh and completely refreshed headlamps and taillamps.
Fortuner 2015
The 2015 model wasn’t just a minor facelift but marked a major change in the Fortuner's design language. Following the same ‘keen look’ fascia as the Toyota Corolla sedan, the 2015 model brought a lot of changes to the robust exterior and added several aerodynamic aids that were missing in the last one. The interiors were a major departure from the previous model and were made intentionally distinctive from the Hilux. The headlamps were also changes and looked similar to the slim headlights from the Corolla.
Fortuner 2016
The latest 2016 Fortuner is revealed to be a sportier version of the previous generation and recently made its debut in Thailand. Badged as the Fortuner TRD Sportivo, it has been presented with an all new body kit and include some impressive looking 20-inch alloys. New additions include a 2.8-litre Turbodiesel drivetrain that produces nearly 177 hp and is offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Major changes have been provided to the vehicle’s interiors and now features red-black upholstery, new instrument cluster, advanced centre console with touch screen display and a start stop button.
More details about the latest Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo will be revealed once the vehicle makes its way in the Philippines the next month. We hope the abovementioned information will provide some juice to fuel your speculations till then.
