2018 Mitsubishi Mirage G4: Features explained
Mitsubishi entered the compact sedan segment in the Philippines automobile market by launching its Mirage G4, an extended version of the highly popular Mirage hatchback. After being in the market for some time, Mitsubishi brought in a slightly updated model of the Mirage G4 for 2018. The new model got a redesigned rear end, new alloy wheels, new colors, and a few additions in the interior features. We are going to talk about some of the key features of the Mirage G4 in this story.
Touchscreen infotainment system
In the earlier models of the Mirage G4, we have seen a 6.5-inch touchscreen to handle the media and entertainment needs of the customers. In the 2018 model, Mitsubishi has slightly increased the screen size of this infotainment system. Now, the GLS model features a 6.75-inch touchscreen whereas, the GLX variant has got a 7-inch unit. Apart from the size, the functions of the system remain unchanged. It has a multimedia player with AUX, USB port, and Bluetooth connectivity, and it also doubles up as a navigation display while using the GPS.
Large trunk space
Like we mentioned before, the Mirage G4 is an extended version of the Mirage hatchback. Mitsubishi has utilized the extended portion of the Mirage by giving a large trunk space of 450-litre. This should be more than enough to accommodate your luggage for that weekend getaway and even for an extended holiday.
1.2-litre MIVEC engine
If we talk about the Mirage G4 specs, you get a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control System (MIVEC) engine that produces a max power of 78 PS at 6,000 revs and generates 100 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 revs. These are decent numbers to keep the car up and running. There are two transmission options - a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT unit.
Aerodynamic and lightweight body
The overall design of the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is quite aerodynamic. This not only helps it to move faster but also run more efficiently. Also, the lightweight body (1,305 kg gross) of the car along with the aerodynamic design helps the 1.2-litre to extract out the maximum in terms of both performance and fuel economy. Mitsubishi claims that the Mirage G4 is capable to give a fuel efficiency of 21 kmpl.
Tight turning radius
It’s quite evident that the Mirage G4 is a long car. On one hand, it’s an advantage as a long wheelbase gives more space in the cabin as well as at the trunk. However, there are certain shortcomings in a long car, like a large turning radius. Mitsubishi, however, has managed to keep the minimum turning radius of the Mirage G4 as short as possible at 4.8 meters. This really comes in handy in narrow city streets and traffic jams.
ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Award
If we talk about the safety features in the Mitsubishi Mirage G4, we will find front airbags, front seat belts with pre-tensioner, ISOFIX, reverse camera, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Thanks to these features and the Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) Body of the Mirage G4, that this car has won ASEAN NCAP Grand Prix Award for Adult Occupancy Protection in the Mini Car Category.
Smooth ride quality
With the MacPherson Strut suspension setup at the front, and coil spring at the back, the Mirage G4 has a smooth ride quality. It can tackle minor undulations of the road pretty well without compromising the comfort levels but it certainly isn’t meant for going off-road.
These were some of the key features of the 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage G4. There are two Mirage G4 variants - GLS and GLX - available in the country. Both of them comes with an option of going with the manual gearbox or the CVT unit. At present, the Mirage G4 price starts from Php 666,000 for the base model with manual transmission. The top-end GLS trim will set you back by Php 816,000.
