2019 Mitsubishi Montero Sport – Top features
Mitsubishi Montero Sport is one of the best-selling vehicles in the country. After all, it has the perfect marriage of style, function, and performance which tends to be rare for its segment. So, whether you’re looking for an expensive ride to flaunt or a tough car that you can depend on, this midsize SUV can fill in the gaps. Below, you’ll find the top features of the 2019 Mitsubishi Montero Sport.
1. Refreshed look
Montero Sport gains muscle for its 2019 update. It still features the Dynamic Shield grill found in modern Mitsubishi cars, but with a redesigned front end.
Its hood is higher and almost flat, with more obvious character lines. The fog lamps and signal lights have also been set higher. The front bumper is no longer curvy, and instead has a boxy, angular design with plenty of chrome elements. Moreover, there’s a new set of three-tier LED headlights that are both reminiscent of the Mitsubishi Xpander and unique for an SUV.
Moving on to the side, you’ll notice that the 18-inch alloy wheels with flashy six-spoke mags. The new mags are complemented by prominent wheel arches and body lines.
On the back, the vertical “crying taillights” are there to stay although a significant portion has been chopped off. The rear end also features a new spoiler and layout which switches the positions of the brake lights and signal lights.
All in all, the new Montero Sport finally gets an aggressive look that befits its name.
2. Spacious interior
Since its second generation, Mitsubishi Montero Sport adopted a Pickup Passenger Vehicle (PPV) platform, essentially turning it from a five-seater to a seven-seat SUV. This has not changed in the latest model which has room enough to fit a large family.
The vehicle also has a massive cargo space which can be further expanded with foldable third-row seats. Front passengers now have a safer place to store their devices with the new compartment under the center console.
3. Upmarket design
Higher-end variants of Mitsubishi Montero Sport will feature leather seats, leather-covered steering wheels, automatic climate control, and a larger 8-inch Smart Audio Display. The OEM infotainment system will be equipped with an AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, Tomtom Navigation, and smartphone connectivity via Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
Both variants also get two additional USB charging ports and a 220V electrical outlet in the second row. This allows rear passengers to charge their devices and laptops on-the-go.
Only the Mitsubishi Montero Sport GT will get a motorized front driver seat and a digital LCD gauge which can be customized to show certain information. It will also have a power tailgate with hands-free function for easy loading. If you want to open the tailgate, simply dangle your feet under the rear bumper to activate the sensors, and it’ll pop right up!
4. Superior safety
Mitsubishi Montero Sport spec sheet tells it has the following safety features as a standard:
- Dual front airbags
- Anti-lock brakes (ABS)
- Electronic brake force distribution (EBD)
- Second-row ISOFIX child seat anchors
- Three-point seatbelts for all passengers
- Speed-sensing door locks
- Active stability
- Traction control
- Reverse cameras
- Multi-view parking camera
- Crash sensors
In addition to these, Mitsubishi has also upgraded the vehicle’s driver-assist features. These are particularly useful when avoiding accidents and incurring unnecessary expenses on repairs. The all-new Montero Sport now comes with:
- Trailer stability assist
- Lane change assist
- Forward collision mitigation
- Rear cross-traffic alert
- Hill start assist
- Hill descent control
- Adaptive cruise control
5. Powerful performance
While no improvements have been made on its engine, we still think it’s one of the best features on the new model. The 2019 Montero Sport has the same 2.4-liter turbo diesel engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with Sports Mode. In terms of performance, it’s capable of delivering 178 hp and 430 Nm of torque. You’ll find that it picks up speed steadily but also easy to brake.
6. Fuel efficiency
The diesel mill, combined with Mitsubishi’s Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control or MIVEC system, enables the Montero Sport to provide excellent fuel efficiency of up to 18 kmpl. It also has low exhaust emissions, which makes it an eco-friendly option.
Given its top features, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport is a worthy rival to the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Nissan Terra, Isuzu Mu-X, Mazda CX-5, and Chevrolet Colorado.
