2019 Toyota Yaris: Variants explained
The new 2019 Toyota Yaris is unquestionably one of the most anticipated hatchbacks that we have seen in recent times. It has managed to create a strong fan base not only here in the Philippines but in our neighboring countries as well. And there are many reasons why people are liking it so much. One of them is its looks.
Toyota has done a great job when it comes to the design and styling of the new Yaris. Its large headlamps are of the main attractive features. They not only look great but also act as a signature element of the car. Due to the large size of the headlamps, there isn’t much space left to fit in a full-size grille,
therefore, Toyota used a small body-colored patch placed in between the headlamps and carries the brand’s logo. Combine all this with the sporty front bumper and you’ve got yourself a youthful and energetic-looking hatchback.
Toyota Yaris variants available in the Philippines are three - 1.3 E MT, 1.3 E AT, and 1.5 S AT. All three of them looks mostly the same. Of course, there are a few differences that set them apart and justify the varying price. Let’s find out in detail about all three variants. Check out Yaris features here.
Toyota Yaris 1.3 E MT
This is the base model of the Yaris available in the country. It starts at a price of Php 875,000. This variant is powered by a 1.3-liter Dual VVT-i, 4-Cylinder In-Line DOHC engine which produces 99 PS of max power at 6000 rpm and generates peak torque of 123 Nm at 4400 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
There are certain measures that Toyota has taken to keep the cost in check. The 1.3 E MT model comes with drum brakes at the rear. It has a 3-spoke urethane steering wheel with no mounted controls. On the outside, the car looks similar to the other two variants but lacks LED daytime running lights.
The interior gets fabric seats that provide a good amount of comfort to the occupants. One of the striking elements that you would find in the cabin of the Yaris is the Optitron instrument cluster. It looks quite sporty and displays a bunch of information. The air-conditioning in the base model is manual and so are the outside rearview mirrors, although they can be electrically adjusted but aren’t electrically retractable.
There is a 7-inch touch screen infotainment system that supports CD, MP3, AUX, USB, Bluetooth, and Weblink for both iOS and Android. Toyota has made this system as standard across all the variants. Other things that come as standard are the safety features - airbags (Driver, Passenger, Driver Knee, Side, Curtain Shield), vehicle stability control, ABS with EBD and brake assist, child protection lock, ISOFIX, and high mount stop lamp.
Toyota Yaris 1.3 E AT
As the name suggests, the only difference between this and the 1.3 E MT variant is of the gearbox. Instead of a 5-speed manual transmission, this model comes with a CVT unit. The price of the 1.3 E AT variant is Php 927,000.
Toyota Yaris 1.5 S AT
This is the range-topping variant of the Yaris and thus the most expensive one. It is priced at Php 1.04 million. The biggest difference between this and the aforementioned models is the engine. This variant comes with a more powerful 1.5-litre engine that has been tuned to churn out 107 PS of max power at 6000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm. The transmission here is the same CVT unit that we have seen in the 1.3 E AT model.
Other changes in the variant include rear disc brakes, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio switch, high projector-type headlamps with LED daytime running lights, automatic air conditioning, and 6 speakers. There is also Eco Drive and Sport Drive modes available.
All three variants of the 2019 Yaris are available in 5 different colors - Freedom White, Attitude Black Mica, Grey Metallic, Orange Metallic, and Citrus Mica Metallic. All three of them offer good features at a good price and you won’t be disappointed with any of them. However, in the end, it all comes down to your personal preferences and requirements.
