2020 Audi A6 - All you need to know

While everyone had their attention at the 2020 Audi RS7 that has just been revealed at the ongoing 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, in Germany, Audi Philippines silently launched the 2020 A6 in the country. Unveiled for the very first time at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, we were expecting the new Audi A6 to arrive in the Philippines sooner or later. So what are the changes that Audi has done in the latest A6? Here is everything you need to know.

Just like any other updated model, the 2020 Audi A6 has also received a handful of changes. However, the highlight of the show is the new hybrid engine. The new A6 is powered by a 2.0-litre TFSI turbocharged engine which is coupled with a 12V electric motor. The total power and torque output of the 2020 A6 is 245 PS and 370 Nm respectively. The transmission here is a super slick 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

So, when does this electric power come into play? Audi says that the new A6 will utilise the power produced from the electric motor while idling as well as while crawling in stop and go traffic conditions. This would help reduce overall fuel consumption. Audi claims that the 2020 A6 is capable to extract out a mileage of 16.7 kmpl.

And when it comes to performance, the new A6 is not at all a slouch. It has a limited top speed of 250 km/h and can do the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in a mere 6.8 seconds. Unfortunately, we do not get Audi’s world-famous Quattro drive system, which means that the A6 in the Philippines is an FWD car.

In terms of looks and design, the 2020 Audi A6 gets a revised front grille which is quite similar to that of the Audi A7. The headlamps are full LEDs and continue to have aggressive and mean design. The LED daytime running lights should give you a chance to identify the car when spotted. We also see a slightly revamped bonnet for that added aerodynamic efficiency and sportiness.

Audi has kept things busy on the side of the new A6 by adding some character lines. They eliminate the boredom and enhances the car’s sporty appeal. The A6 still looks fantastic and very much desirable from the side view. Coming to the rear, we get a set of squared-off LED tail lamps that are bridged together by a single thick horizontal chrome line. It reminds us of the Audi A7’s rear. We are not complaining, just saying.

Now let us talk about the interior. The biggest change here is the inclusion of the new fully digital instrument console and infotainment system. A large 12.3-in colour display sits right behind the steering wheel. It shows a plethora of information in a clear and uncluttered fashion. Audi calls it the Virtual Cockpit. The infotainment in this car consists of a 10.1-in display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bang & Olufsen 3D surround sound system.

Audi has let go of the scroll wheel located at the centre console or panel which was used to control the entire infotainment system. It has been replaced by a touch panel. While this is certainly a step ahead towards modernisation, it might be tricky to use as one would need to look at it in order to touch select the right or required option. What do you think?

Another great feature is the mood enhancer which is nothing else but ambient lighting. Audi says that there are 30 different colour tones available. The rest of the interior of the new A6 is more or less unchanged and if you had been inside the previous model, you would find many things quite familiar.

In terms of safety, the 2020 Audi A6 specs list many advanced safety features, along with the basic ones, that consist of equipment based on radar technology, laser, sensors, and cameras. So, you can get an idea of the level of sophistication of these systems. And all of them work in unison to keep the car’s occupants as safe as possible.

These were the main points that you should know about the latest A6. For now, it is available in only a single variant, i.e., the 45 TFSI S Tronic and for that you would need to shell out Php 4,690,000.
