2020 BMW 1 Series gets M Performance treatment
MANILA: BMW didn’t really bring out M Performance packages for its front-wheel-drive cars, did it? We shared a story couple of days ago when the German automaker unveiled the newest iteration of its entry-level offering, i.e., the BMW 1 Series. Interestingly, the hatch has ditched the rear-wheel-drive and now comes equipped with either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive.
We believe BMW was quite aware of the fact that abandoning the rear-wheel-drive may actually cut a few customers for the 1 Series, and in order to entice them towards the new hatch, it has dipped the 2020 1 Series in the M Performance waters.
The model here in the images is the top-of-the-line M135i xDrive, which not only comes wearing M Performance aesthetics but also gets a few hardware upgrades as well. Starting off with the upgrades, the BMW 1 Series gets an array of 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels. The rims come with finish choices like jet-black and dual-tone. Furthermore, there are rims dedicated for summer and winter season as well.
On the outside, the hatchback gets visual updates like side mirror caps, rear diffuser, black decals, and numerous gloss black accents. Once you open the doors, the LED projector mounted at the bottom of the door card projects an M Performance logo on the ground. You can also shuffle between the two more images that the automaker has provided.
Hop inside the hatchback and you are greeted with an M Performance steering wheel that comes wearing Alcantara leather with silver stitching and a red accent at the 12 o’clock position. Then we have the velvet floor mats with M Performance badging. There are also carbon fibre shift paddles available for the models which come equipped with the automatic transmission.
The performance upgrades on the 2020 BMW 1 Series with the M Performance pack include 18-inch M Performance brakes with ventilated rotors and four-piston callipers which come dipped in red. The rear tyres get regular discs and single piston callipers, though.
