2020 Honda City: First impression
Honda City is a subcompact sedan that probably needs no introduction in many parts of the world. It is one of Honda’s best selling models and for the last few months, we know there’s going to be a new one coming. Well, Honda just unveiled its brand-new 2020 City in Thailand and boy, it looks spectacular!
There have been a handful of speculations and spy shots of the 2020 Honda City but now since it has been officially revealed, we can finally get to know some of the final and true details. Here is our first impression of the new City.
How does the new City look from the front?
Ans. The City has always been a good-looking car and in its latest avatar, it looks even better. Honda has revamped the whole car to make sure it turns all heads.
At the front of the 2020 Honda City, we have a new set of LED headlights that are sleeker than before. Thanks to the signature Honda grille, you can still easily identify the new City as a Honda.
Honda has also redesigned the front bumper for a sportier look. If you gaze at the new City from the front, there’s no doubt that you will find it to be more mature and sportier than its predecessor. However, we think that the new car lost the elegant element. What do you think?
Has Honda made any changes to the side and rear of the new City?
Ans. At the side, the outside rearview mirrors have been relocated which would give the driver a much wider view of what’s behind probably eliminating some of the generic blind spots. Then we have a very prominent character line running across the doors. Regarding the wheels, they look quite familiar.
Moving to the rear end of the new City, we see a new set of tail lamps that are beautifully designed. Overall, the new 2020 Honda City has a much cleaner and modern appearance than ever before.
What’s new on the inside?
Ans. Honda has altered the dimensions of the new City. It is longer and wider than the previous model but has a shorter wheelbase. This means that the interior is quite spacious and thanks to the ergonomically designed seats, comfort is great too.
Just like the exterior look, the dashboard has a clean and tidy layout. It also gets a large touchscreen with Honda’s Connect system. The quality of materials used and the fit and finish are levels better than that of the previous model.
Considering all the new features, we were expecting to see a new instrument console as well. However, the new City continues to have a conventional type analogous instrument console with a small MID in the centre. This shouldn’t be a deal-breaker but yes, something more exciting and advanced would have been better.
What about the engine options?
Ans. Under the engine section in the 2020 Honda City specs sheet, we have perhaps the second-most interesting feature of the car. Honda has introduced a new engine option. It is a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged DOHC gasoline engine which produces 122 bhp of max power and 173 Nm of torque and is mated to a CVT.
Honda claims that this new engine makes the 2020 City 33% more efficient than before. However, we don’t know at this point in time whether Honda would launch the new City with this engine option in the Philippines or not.
Talking about the launch, the unveiling took place in Thailand and Honda didn’t disclose any information regarding the availability of the new City. It’s being speculated that the Philippines would get the new City sometime during the first quarter of 2020.
What would be the 2020 Honda City price?
The current generation Honda City price starts at PHP 820,000. And taking into account all the new features of the 2020 model, we wouldn’t be surprised to see an increased price tag. Honda would also bring a more tempting RS variant which will be the most expensive variant of the car.
We will be keeping an eye out for the new City, so stay tuned to Zigwheels Philippines for all the latest updates on the same.
