2020 Honda City spotted during a test drive, ahead of its global reveal
MANILA: The latest model of the Honda City was spotted in India under heavy camouflage for the third time while test driving. Thus leaving car enthusiasts to speculate that the car would be revealed very soon. Perhaps during the 2019 Thailand Motor Expo in November? Just so the fifth-generation 2020 Honda Jazz could bask in the limelight when it unveils next week at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
The best-selling B-segment sedan is expected to have a full design change. As seen from the spy shots, the new 2020 Honda City looks a bit roomier—it’s wider and longer than the previous model. And despite the heavy camouflage, it is obvious that the new City design is somewhat similar to the latest versions of the other Honda’s sedan lineup, particularly, the Accord. The front sports a wide grille (which some say would have a chrome finish), wraparound headlamp loaded with LED elements and accentuated with a large Honda badge at the center.
On the rear, the fifth-generation Honda City continuous the flow of the streamlined design with wraparound tail-lights. This might look like the previous model but upon closer inspection, the taillights of the new City become narrower at the corners—something that has not been seen on any other Honda sedan so far. The new City is also sporting new alloy wheels.
There are not many details about the interiors, but car enthusiasts expect it to receive some updated features. Among the possible updates would be bigger touchscreen infotainment, digital instrumentation, sunroof, cruise control, and steering-mounted audio controls.
In terms of engine, there are predictions that the 2020 Honda City will come with three engine options, including the petrol-hybrid powertrain, which is set to debut in the new 2020 Honda Jazz. The other one is the 3-cylinder 1.0-L gasoline VTEC TURBO that can deliver up to 118hp of power, partnered with either a CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission. The third likely engine is the 1.5L liter gasoline engine that can deliver 100hp of power and 200Nm of torque.
If the speculation of its unveiling pans out, we’ll just have to wait till next month before we get to truly scrutinize the 2020 Honda City.
