2020 Honda City to come with a turbocharged motor?

MANILA: Honda has been quite busy from some time now. From redesigning their existing lineup to fitting turbocharged mills inside of them, the Japanese automaker has been on a roll lately. That being said, the likes of Accord and Civic have already gone under the hammer and chisel and now it’s the turn of the City and Jazz.

Ruling the sedan market since 2014, the Honda City has been one of the go-to cars in the segment. While a change in the design language is imminent, what’s surprising is the rumours suggesting that the 2020 Honda City might come housing a turbocharged engine. The expected turbocharged mill is supposed to be a three-cylinder motor, however, do not go on size as the smaller motor will make more power than the bigger 1.5-litre engine.

The on-going Honda City is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine. The power figures read 120 PS of maximum power (128 PS thanks to Earth Dreams tech) and 145 Nm or 153 Nm of peak torque varying with the market.

The EU version of the City already has a turbocharged motor which is a 1.0-litre mill producing 129 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 200 Nm. A 6-speed manual and a CVT should be the transmission options offered.

Just like the new Civic, the 2020 Honda City should feature a complete overhaul in terms of design. We expect the sedan to boast prominent grille, slim & upswept headlights, and defined corners.

The car might just also get some gym treatment and get slightly bigger in dimensions along with a fastback style roofline. With the Tokyo Motor Show slated in October later this year, the new B-segment sedan is expected to step on the podium there and then. Are you excited for the 2020 Honda City?
