2020 Land Rover Defender coming to PH, price starts at Php 6.09 million
MANILA: The all-new 2020 Land Rover Defender is coming to our shores next summer as announced by Coventry Motors Corporation (CMC), the local distributor of Jaguar Land Rover Philippines.
Debuted at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, and marketed as the ultimate family adventure car, the Defender will come in two sizes: Defender 90 and Defender 110. The Defender 90 is a two-door SUV that seats five people in two rows while the Defender 110 is a four-door vehicle that can accommodate up to 7 passengers. A jump seat at the front row is available in both sizes for one additional seating.
In terms of design, the new 2020 Land Rover Defender features a robust styling with a raised hood, rectangular front grille flanked by rounded headlights. The aggressive design continues at the rear with a side-opening tailgate with externally mounted full-size spare wheel and stacked cube taillights.
Inside, the seats are wrapped in either premium textile or grained leather seats for top trims, hard-wearing rubber flooring, and a state-of-the-art dashboard brimming with high-tech features like the multi-function steering wheel has a dual trackpad on both sides for easy control,
a fully-digital high-resolution instrument cluster with options to display relevant information customizable to the driver’s preference, and a center-mounted 12.3” infotainment HD display with navigation that can be paired with an optional online pack or wi-fi enabled with data plan for connectivity and app updates.
Under the hood, the new Defender will come in several engine options. Two 4-cylinder diesel engines, a D200 or D240; and two gasoline engines—the P300 2.0-Liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder capable of producing 296 Hp of power and 400 Nm of peak torque; and a 6-cylinder P400 with mild-hybrid set up (PETROL MHEV) capable of delivering 395 Hp of power and 550 Nm of torque.
All engine options are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The four-wheel-drive also comes standard on all Defenders with top trims getting a more sophisticated setup. So if you want a better fuel economy for long drives with a high level of torque at low speeds, the ideal choice will be the diesel-powered Defender. But if you prefer a more powerful engine suited for shorter stop-start travels, then the gasoline engine is a better choice.
Safety and driver assistance features for the new Land Rover Defender includes six airbags, emergency braking, cruise control, and speed limiter, lane keep assist, driver condition monitor that detects when you are starting to feel drowsy and reminds you to take a break,
wade sensing, traffic sign recognition, and 3D surround cameras comes standard on all models. Optional features that can be added are the adaptive cruise control, rear pre-collision monitor, and blind-spot assist.
According to CMC President, Chris Ward, the new Land Rover Defender will be available starting April 2020.
