Land Rover Discovery Sport

While the previous generation model of the Land Rover Discovery Sport was starting to feel dated, the mild updates were done to the new model certainly have made it feel upmarket yet again.

The unique multi-functional steering wheel is the same as before, however, there is a new fully digital LCD instrument console behind it, which definitely looks much more futuristic than before. The same can be said about the revamped 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which now get much more smartphone compatibility features including the very important Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Apart from that, the waterfall-like centre console is same as before, with an enhanced panel for automatic climate control as well.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport is a seven-seater model, but the compact size doesn’t allow much space in the third row. However, the middle row is quite spacious.

The previous model of the Land Rover Discovery was showing signs of ageing, but the new minute design updates have surely brought it back in the game. The latest model looks sleek yet has got a great road presence which all the traditional Land Rovers usually possess.

The full LED headlamps have become sleeker than before and now get a new split pattern for LED daytime running lamps. The trademark honeycomb mesh trapezoidal grille is the same as before, however, the front bonnet gets mild changes towards outer edges.

The side profile of the Land Rover Discovery Sport is more or less the same as before – the SUV continues to get blackened B-pillar and coloured C-pillar, while the new pattern for machined alloy wheels itself adds much more freshness to the taut stance.

At the rear, the Land Rover Discovery Sport gets the same squatted stance with a slanted rear windshield and a new design for full LED tail lamps.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport has always been one great driver’s choice with a taut balance of soft suspension and precise steering setup. The new model continues to follow the trend, and the squat stance and monocoque frame allow it to be pliant on all kinds of roads with ease.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport has got two engine options, each of which is available in two states of tune and an all-new 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard. Starting off with the petrol engine, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit is being offered in two states of tune – 200 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque as well as 249 PS of power and 365 Nm of torque. 

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine too is available in two states of tune – 150 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque as well as 180 PS of power and 430 Nm of torque. There is also a twin-turbo version of the same engine which produces 240 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque. All these powertrains do get all-wheel drive as the standard drivetrain.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport has seen some changes to its safety features list as well, which now consists of airbags all around, ABS with EBD, traction control, vehicle stability control, traffic sign recognition, adaptive speed limiter, blind spot assist, adaptive cruise control and high-speed emergency braking.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport was already a mechanically accomplished product, and the new facelifted version has only added a much-needed dash of novelty and freshness to it. It now comes with all those features which were badly missed in the previous model, yet retaining the practicality of a seven-seater vehicle as well as the great balance of ride quality and handling.
