2020 Mazda MX-5 unleashed in the UK, starts at £23,795
MANILA: With the arrival of the year 2020, Mazda has also started rolling out newer and updated models for the masses around the world. The newest model coming out of the Japanese automaker's production facilities are the Mazda MX-5 Convertible and the RF Retractable Fastback models. The new Mazda MX5 range comprises of 10 variants including four Convertibles and six RFs.
The 2020 Mazda MX-5 flaunts the likes of LED dusk-sensing headlamps with automatic levelling, Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), LED DRLs, leather upholstery, rain-sensing wipers, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multifunction steering wheel, and much more. The infotainment system is equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, AM/FM/DAB radio, single CD/MP3, and a sound system by Bose that incorporates 9 speakers.
On the mechanical front, the SE-L and Sport variants house the 1.5-litre motor that produces 132 PS of maximum power and 152 Nm of peak torque. Moreover, the Sport Tech and the new range-topping GT Sport Tech models are powered by a 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G engine capable of generating 184 PS and 205 Nm. At last, it is again the 1.5-litre mill that powers the Convertible, SE-L, and Sport trim RF trims.
While the 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G is only available with a manual gearbox, the 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G, on the other hand, can be availed with either a manual or an automatic transmission. Both the engines feature Mazda's i-ELOOP and i-stop kinetic recovery and stop-start technology for enhances fuel efficiency.
As for the performance figures, the Convertible and the RF Mazda MX-5 with the 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G can do a 0 to 100 kmph run in 8.3 and 8.7 seconds, respectively. Furthermore, the 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G manual enables the two to achieve the same feat in 6.5 and 6.8 seconds each. The Mazda MX-5 RF with the 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G automatic goes from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.9 seconds. With that said, the 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G manual should be preferred powertrain choice for the enthusiasts.

Coming on to the new range-topping GT Sport Tech flagship model, the car gets special treatment in the form of 17-inch BBS alloy wheels and Burgundy Nappa leather seats. In terms of safety, the 2020 Mazda MX-5 gets an array of safety features such as -

- Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with Traction Control System (TCS)
- Limited Slip Differential (LSD)
- Hill Launch Assist (HLA)
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
- ISOFIX child seat anchorage
- Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (BSM w/RCTA)
- Reverse camera

The 2020 Mazda MX-5 price in the UK starts at £23,795 and the sports car will hit the dealerships next month, that is, February 2020.
