2020 Mercedes-Benz E-class facelifted with new face and new engine
MANILA: The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class teaser shows the facelifted car ahead of its debut. The automaker has given a mid-life update to one of the most popular luxury cars in the world. It was scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show, which now stands cancelled, hence Mercedes unveiled the E-class facelift through teaser images and videos. With the extent of styling and overhauling the E-class is put to, it is sure to break covers. Though the mid-life updates are not that extensive, Mercedes has decided to offer a whole package of updates this time.
This new facelifted E-class is sure to give a strong fight to Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series.
Engineers have touched upon both the interior and exterior faces of the car. This designing revitalization includes slight tweaks on the car fascia along with improvised powertrain features.
Coming to the designing tweaks, the front face now looks all the more soft with a revised grille and reshaped headlamps. Headlamps are sharper than before and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL's) are aligned in such a manner to make you feel as if an eyebrow is drawn.
A most- common trait that is commonly found in all Mercedes cars these days, are the razor-shaped headlamps, which are also quite nicely enhancing the beauty of this facelift version. Facelifted E-Class can now run more smoothly as compare to outgoing models, thanks to subtle refinement of the bonnet and bumper.
Mercedes tristar-the three-pointed star has also received a special ingenious decoration.
The rear end has also received significant updates. In place of previous rounded tail-lights, a distinctive shape and updated light fixtures dons the appeal of the rear fascia. Tail-lights are now slimmer and sharper, giving it a sleeker and crisper look. Lights are further extended across the back, seamlessly meeting the boot lid and sharp upper edges. Engineers have also successfully played with lighting graphics, enhancing the elegance of the car. Buyers can now choose from three new paint options also: Graphite Grey, Mojave Silver, and Cirrus Silver.
A very prominent modification is also made to the front and rear bumper. The AMG version of E-class now dons a more masculine and boxier appearance.
As you open the door, you see a new MBUX infotainment display with a 12.3-inch central touchscreen along with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. A new touchpad is also spotted at the center console. Additionally, refreshingly new upholstery options are also available on the trim. Also, take a look at the steering wheel, which has undergone a complete overhaul.
Some of the further updates includes driving assistance system, steering wheel hands-off detection, active blind spot assist and a parking system which includes a 360-degree camera.
Talking about the powertrain features, the E-class drops the twin-turbo V6 for the latest turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine with EQ Boost. And for the first time, the E-Class gets a plug-in hybrid option. This is the major update received by the E-class, a hybrid powertrain option. The electrified E-Class combines a 2.0-liter inline-four engine with a 90-kilowatt-hour electric motor. With this, the resultant output generated is 315 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque, but the electric motor is capable of generating 121 hp (90 kW) and 325 lb-ft (440 Nm), on its own.
While the refreshed E-Class is expected to go on sale for international markets in the coming months, we expect it should serve the Philippines markets as well.
