2020 Toyota Corolla Altis - All you need to know

So, the wait is over and Toyota Philippines Motor has finally launched the new 2020 Corolla Altis. Toyota has made a plethora of changes in this next-gen model of the Altis which we are going to talk about in a while, however, the centre of attraction or you can say that the highlight of the new Corolla Altis is its hybrid variant which the company is hoping to sell in good numbers. So here is everything that you need to know about the 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis.

Updated looks

Since the new Corolla Altis is a new model, so it had to have a new, fresh look. Although it still looks like a Corolla, no doubt, there are a few new elements that make it more desirable and attractive.

Toyota Philippines Motor has made the new Altis sharper than before. It looks more aggressive and sportier. At the front, we have a set of new LED daytime running lights along with LED headlights. The front grille has been kept minimal which is kind of an elegant feature to have. The front bumper carries new chrome embellishments on its both ends whereas the large radiator grille is familiar. The bonnet or hood gets a couple of sharp lines which, apart from acting as styling elements, we reckon also plays a role in the car’s overall aerodynamic design.

Moving to the side of the car, we have new 17-in alloy wheels that are extremely well-finished. And the rear end gets new LED tail lamps with signature lighting which we really like. Also, the diffuser adds sportiness and along with the redesigned rear bumper, the 2020 Corolla Altis looks fantastic even from the rear.

Interior features

We also like how Toyota has done the interior of the new Corolla Altis. There is a good amount of space for all the occupants and a decent level of luxury. The new car gets leather seats that offer good support and enhances the overall comfort level. The dashboard has a nice design and everything is placed very ergonomically for the driver. The steering wheel gets mounted controls for audio, telephony, voice control, cruise control, and multi-info display.

Talking about the MID, the large 7-in display in the instrument console is a welcoming feature. You can receive a lot of information on it. Then we have automatic climate control which works brilliantly and we also get a one-touch auto window, auto-dimming mirror, and engine push to start/stop button. For entertainment, there is a touch screen display that supports CD/DVD, MP3, AUX, Bluetooth and T-link (Android and iOS).

Engine

As we mentioned earlier, this is where all the magic is. The 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis specs list two engine options - 1.6 and 1.8 hybrid. The former is a 4-cylinder in-line DOHC engine which has been tuned to churn out 121 hp of max power at 6000 rpm and 153 Nm of peak torque at 5200 rpm. It is available in both CVT and 6-speed manual transmission.

The 1.8-litre hybrid engine is capable of producing a max power of 97 hp at 5200 rpm and 142 Nm of peak torque at 3600 rpm. Since it is a hybrid, its electric motor generates 71 hp of max power output, therefore, the combined power output is 121 hp which is exactly the same as that of the 1.6-litre unit. You only get CVT with the hybrid.

Safety features

When it comes to safety, we know that Toyota doesn’t take it lightly. The new Altis comes with 7 airbags, ABS, vehicle stability control, hill start assist, and Toyota Safety Sense which undertakes a few advanced features like a pre-collision system, automatic high beam, lane tracing assist, lane departure alert, and dynamic radar cruise control.

So that was the new 2020 Corolla Altis for you. Toyota says that people are not that familiar with the hybrid technology and that is one of the main reasons why we have not seen a booming market for such cars. However, it will promote the hybrid variant to spread awareness and its benefits which hopefully would make people realise and appreciate its benefits.

The 2020 Toyota Corolla Altis price starts at Php 999,000 for its base model and shoots as high as Php 1,580,000 for the hybrid variant. All the features that we have mentioned would vary depending on the variant you pick.
