MANILA: We still remember the event when Toyota chose the Philippines for the global debut of the 2020 Hiace. Interestingly, quite a lot about the van was already known even before the launch courtesy of several leaks. The new elongated hood on the van caught everyone's eye, and now, it has benefited the 2020 Toyota Hiace in attaining a higher safety quotient and grabbing a perfect 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.

Also, the major safety features that have helped the van in scoring well in the testing include seven SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, stability assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Note that the model tested differs from the standard Hiace that is available in the Philippines. Besides, our Philippine-spec Super Grandia is comparable to the variant that took part in the testing. In Adult Occupancy Protection (AOP) test, the van scored 46.31 out of 50, whereas in Child Occupant Protection (COP), a score of 22.93 out of 25 was achieved. Lastly, the Safety Assist Technology (SAT) test saw the van scoring 20.27 out of 25.

While the 2020 Toyota Hiace "marginal" in chest protection for both front passenger, the score was “good” for head and leg protection. Another “good” was scored by the van in side-impact testing. The testing report said, "ASEAN NCAP recently collaborated with Australasian NCAP to test the new Toyota Majesty/Granvia, a luxurious MPV based on the latest generation of Hiace.

The model made a good performance in the test with each domain obtained 46.31 points for AOP, 22.93 points for COP and 20.27 points for SATs. The MPV offers seven airbags as standard in all its available market except for Vietnam in which it is offered with three airbags. The Majesty/Granvia is fitted with Electronic Stability Control and Anti-lock Braking System as standard across all variants.

The Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) is also equipped as standard with different occupant fitment for different market. It offers other advanced safety assist technologies but they are only available in the Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar market. With an overall score of 89.51 points, the Toyota Majesty/Granvia is eligible for 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating".
