2021 Chevrolet Suburban - What to expect
General Motor just recently unveiled the all-new Chevrolet Suburban along with the Tahoe. And Chevy completely reinvented its oldest nameplate—The 2021 Chevrolet Suburban just got even bigger and better, both inside and out!
The current Chevy Suburban had a redesign back in 2015, and though the life cycle of an SUV usually lasts for 12 years, GM decided to introduce a new generation to keep up with the fast-paced SUV segment. Here’s what to expect on this all-new generation full-size SUV offering from Chevy.
2021 Chevrolet Suburban exterior
At first glance, the 2021 Suburban looked like it got the same updates at that of the recently facelifted Silverado. But look a little closer and you’ll see that almost all aspects of the Suburban got changed, starting with its dimension. This Chevy full-size SUV got an even bigger body that’s 225.7 inches long— a whole inch longer than its predecessor; and rides on a 134.1-inch-long wheelbase from the previous measurement of 130 inches.
Besides getting a bit beefier, 2021 Suburban also gets design updates. Though it retained its blocky front façade, this Chevy SUV sports a large dual-port front grille, minimalist LED rectangular headlights that look very narrow compared to the robust grille, and C-shaped LED signature lighting. On the sides, the Suburban keeps its design simple with two deep creases breaking up the monotony. At the rear, the Suburban maintains the minimalist lighting with new taillight designs with an L-shaped LED graphic. Up top is a rear spoiler and shark fin. And down below are quad tailpipes and chrome applique to dress it up a bit. The new Suburban rides on a set of standard 18-inch wheels for the LS and LT trims; 20-inch wheels for the Premier and Z71 trims; while the RST and High Country trim will get a set of 22-inch rims.
2021 Chevrolet Suburban interior
Inside the all-new Suburban are the familiar buttons, knobs, and user interface all in a familiar layout. There’s the head-up display and digital gauge-cluster display that got a tad bigger, multi-function steering wheel, an optional 10-inch infotainment console with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability is perched at the center above the AC vents and within eye level of the instrument cluster for better viewing. Also available is the optional rear-seat entertainment system that includes two 12.6-inch screens mounted behind the front seats. Other notable features are charging ports scattered throughout the cabin, wireless charging with a charging cooler to keep your device from overheating, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi (data plan needed) to keep you connected even when traveling.
Because of the bigger size of the Suburban, this means more cabin space and additional legroom of about two inches each on the second and third rows. The second-row seats are now also adjustable so you could slide it back for more leg space. Cargo space also got bumped up. With lower cargo floor and both second and third row folded, boot capacity is at 144.7 cubic feet, a significant increase from 121.7 cubic feet.
2021 Chevrolet Suburban engine
For power, the new Chevrolet Suburban comes in several engine options. There’s the standard 5.3-liter V8 that delivers 355 hp of output and 519 Nm of torque; an optional 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp of power and 624 Nm of torque; or the new 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel inline-six engine that can produce 277 hp of maximum power and 624 Nm of peak torque. All engine options are partnered to a standard 10-speed automatic transmission and rear- or four-wheel drive. Though the two V8 engines are the same from the previous model, these were updated with new fuel management systems.
2021 Chevrolet Suburban safety and driver-assist features
Though the new 2021 Chevrolet SUV has not been rated yet by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), it does come with an extensive line of active and passive safety and driver-assist features. For one, the automatic emergency braking will come standard across all trims which is currently only available on the Suburban LT and higher trims offer. Other safety features on the new Chevy SUV include:
- Forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
- Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
- Lane departure warning and lane-keeping assist
- High-definition 360 degree camera
- Following-distance indicator
- Rear park assist
- Automatic high-beam headlights
- Hitch guidance on the rearview camera
2021 Chevrolet Suburban price point
As per usual, the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban will follow the same six trim levels. And though Chevy hasn’t announced any official pricing, it will likely just be slightly higher than the current versions. Below are the estimated prices for the Suburban line up:
- Chevrolet Suburban LS: Php 2.68 million ($52,995 est.)
- Chevrolet Suburban LT: Php 2.91 million ($57,495 est.)
- Chevrolet Suburban RST: Php 3.01 million ($59,495 est.)
- Chevrolet Suburban Z71: Php 3.08 million ($60,995 est.)
- Chevrolet Suburban Premier: Php 3.39 million ($66,995 est.)
- Chevrolet Suburban High Country: Php 3.89 million ($76,995 est.)
Final word
The all-new 2021 Chevrolet Suburban is one of the biggest and most capable SUV out there and it outdid itself on this newest offering by going bigger and giving the machine more capabilities without compromising on what consumers want—riding comfort, responsive vehicle, and connectivity. There are a lot of things to like about the new full-size SUV from Chevy and it can easily stack up with the competition.
