2022 Audi RS 5 Sportback arrives in PH

MANILA: Audi Philippines had officially launched the 2022 Audi RS 5 Sportback, which features new design details and innovative digital technologies.

The 2022 Audi RS 5 Sportback combines excellent pulling power and great traction with daily-use practicality. It was named as the best performer in its segment in The Sunday Times Motor Awards.

According to the UK publication, a hot sportback “needs to be eminently usable for the weekly shop and school run but also able to set your pants on fire, if so desired... Audi RS 5 Sportback does all that in spades.”

The arrival of the new Audi RS 5 Sportback marks the first time that an Audi Sport RS model designed in stylish five-door fastback coupe body style becomes available in the local market. Audi Philippines currently offers five other Audi Sport RS models, namely the RS 5 Coupe, RS Q3 Sportback, RS 4 Avant, RS 6 Avant, and RS Q8. Audi Sport is the high-performance division of Audi AG.

The new Audi RS Sportback features a sporty and sophisticated character. It is designed with a wave-like shoulder line that highlights its perfectly balanced proportions as defined by a stretched hood, long wheelbase, muscular fenders, and short overhangs. Located above the signature RS Singleframe grille are implied air vents that depict the ones on the original 1980s Audi Quattro. The car is also equipped with matrix LED headlights and pentagonal side air inlets.

The new sill trims and flared wheel arches signify the model’s quattro genetics. On the rear, the car features a new RS-specific bumper, lip spoiler LED combination, and a diffuser that shows the RS exhaust system. To give the RS 5 Sportback a sharper look, Audi offers the Black Optim trim package that includes RS tailpipes. The RS Sports Brake package comes in three unique designs: the five-arm Peak System in matte bronze, the five-arm Flag Style in anthracite, and the five-segment-spoke Evo.

The latest Audi RS 5 Sportback features a futuristic interior design. The cabin comes with a new operating concept which is concentrated on a 10.1-inch MMI touch display. The system features acoustic feedback, a smartphone-like menu, and natural-language voice control. The MMI Navigation plus infotainment system is displayed on the “RS monitor" view that shows the engine and transmission temperature, g-forces generated, and tire pressure and temperature. The car is also equipped with a 12.3-inch high-resolution Audi virtual cockpit that can also display infotainment and navigation functions, RS information, lap times, and acceleration readouts.

Other premium interior features include a flat-bottom steering wheel with multifunction Plus controls, a pair of RS sports seats wrapped in perforated Valcon leather, three-zone climate control, the extended leather package, carbon twill trim, and a Bang & Olufsen 3D audio system.

The new Audi RS 5 Sportback is powered by a 2.9-liter, twin-turbo V6 TFSI engine that churns out 450hp and 600Nm. The engine is mated to an eight-speed tiptronic transmission, which conveys the engine’s output to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. In normal driving, 40% of the power is distributed to the front axle and the rest to the rear. Depending on the driving situation, the center differential can convey up to 70% of the power toward the front or up to 85% to the rear, enabling an even more dynamic handling while consistently ensuring traction. The Audi RS 5 Sportback can accelerate from a standstill to 100 kph in 3.9 seconds.

For better handling, the new Audi RS 5 Sportback features the RS sport suspension with dynamic ride control, which is composed of steel springs and three-way adjustable dampers.

The Audi RS 5 Sportback also comes with the Audi Drive Select feature that allows the driver to choose among three suspension and performance characteristic: Comfort, Auto, and Dynamic. Audi has also added the new RS1 and RS2 modes that can be individually configured, saved, and then selected via the RS Mode button on the steering wheel. The Audi Drive Select also controls engine and transmission management, steering boost, the quattro differential, the sound produced by the RS sport exhaust system, and the automatic air-conditioning.
