2023 Radical SR3 XXR is hardcore version of brand's iconic race car

MANILA: The SR3 XXR has been fully revealed by Radical Motorsport, a UK-based motorsport company that improved the SR3's tried-and-true design while keeping the core characteristics that have made it the most successful prototype-style sports racing car in the world.

With more than 1,500 units produced to date, Radical SR3 models currently make up the majority of the grids in the 12 Radical Cup championships held around the world. Today, the creators of the legendary SR3 stated that the model has been improved, and it is now available for purchase as the 2023 Radical SR3 XXR. This modification makes the car more exhilarating and gives drivers the ability to lap for longer periods of time with greater agility and speed.

Powering the major change is the all-new engine from in-house Radical Performance Engines (RPE). The lightweight SR3 XXR is anticipated to keep its remarkable power-to-weight ratio exceeding 350 hp per ton while producing 232 bhp with the upgraded 1,500 cc engine. The SR3 XXR is the first Radical to be able to run on biofuel thanks to the Generation 5 engine's capacity to do so from day one.

The 2023 Radical SR3 XXR has been improved to be more agile on the track in response to customer input, especially during important pit lane phases where saving time while avoiding being penalized for speeding is essential. The possibility of getting fined for speeding through the pit lane is eliminated with the installation of a new pit limiter as standard equipment.

The LMP-inspired center tail "shark fin" significantly increases corner stability at entry and mid-corner. High-intensity DRL lights and lightweight wheels in a new design are two further features that distinguish the SR3 XXR. To increase sturdiness and aerodynamics on the track, a rear diffuser and splitter made of carbon fiber will be available as an option.

This new car has been developed with valuable contributions from our dealer partners as well as current and past customers. For example, it is through listening to their experiences that we gathered they wanted a pit limiter to stop accidental speeding through the pit lane as well as the new cooling setup that significantly reduces warmup time. These factors are just examples of how we continue to enhance the enjoyment of the SR3, arguably the most loved racing car in the world.”

With the increased performance, the engineers at Radical Motorsport have utilized the new technical partnership for the SR3 XXR with AP Racing, to make an upgraded braking system available. The new solution has improved performance through a reduction in unsprung mass and improved pedal feel.

James Pinkerton, Radical Motorsport Head of Research and Development and double Radical Cup UK Champion, said: “The SR3’s handling is renowned as a masterpiece so for [SR3> XXR we took the approach of evolutionary improvements across multiple areas. We looked at customer feedback as well as a list of items we’d personally like as racers. We then set about scrutinizing every system on the vehicle to see where improvements could be made, whilst staying true to the SR3 formula. We’ve carried over the sidepod profile from the SR10 to improve airflow and reduce turbulent drag, and of course the new Generation 5 RPE engine is undoubtedly the star of the show.”

The powerplant of the Radical SR3 XXR has been improved upon further despite already being the foundation of the vehicle's success.

A new scavenge pump design with increased flow for the oiling system, durability upgrades, external gear position sensors for the gearbox, and a fuel composition sensor that permits the use of E85 biofuels are notable advancements. The calibration of the engine and gearbox has also undergone a complete overhaul, and the cylinder head's flow rate and consistency have been improved.

The 2023 Radical SR3 XXR is currently available for pre-order through the 33 dealers operating across 21 countries that make up Radical Motorsport's global dealer network. Production is scheduled to begin in February 2023, with deliveries anticipated to take place later that same month.

Radical Motorsport is a British company that builds and manufactures racing automobiles. Mick Hyde and Phil Abbott, two amateur racers and engineers, formed the business in January 1997. They created open-cockpit sports cars that could be registered for road usage and raced on a track without any modifications. Radical produces a variety of road-legal sports vehicles and race cars with different specs. The Radical SR3 is their most well-known vehicle.
