Omoda E5

The futuristic and modern-looking cabin of the Omoda E5 is available in an all-black theme with contrast bronze highlights on the door panels and dashboard, with the SUV also having ambient lighting to make the cabin feel even fresher. 

The Omoda 5 has a flat-bottom multi-functional steering wheel and a large and wide 24.6-inch curved and trapezoidal digital cockpit behind it. Extending towards the centre console, this trapezoidal cockpit has twin 12.3-inch screens for the instrument console and touchscreen infotainment system.

The middle layer of the dashboard of the Omoda 5 features a sleek panel that comes integrated with sleek AC vents of the crossover. Moving downwards, the lower centre console here has a textured finish for the cover of the closed compartment that has cup holders beneath it. Features like a sunroof, front powered and ventilated seats, 8-speaker Sony audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, 64-coloured ambient lighting, wireless charger, intelligent voice assist, front armrest with a cooled compartment below it and more make the cabin of the Omoda 5 feel very up-to-date. 

Featuring an edgy crossover design, the Omoda 5 looks fresh, with several sharp-looking and attention-grabbing elements all around. Take for instance, the front profile of the Omoda 5, where the SUV has a bold-looking trapezoidal grille with large honeycomb-like body-coloured inserts. The upper edges of the grille have sleek LED DRLs attached to them, while the main headlamps are present in separate housings and are all LED units. 

The Omoda 5 has a lot of striking-looking contrast red highlights, including those on the air dam on the front bumper, rearview mirrors, door side mouldings, alloy wheels, and rear diffuser. The side profile of the Omoda 5 has a raked-down roofline, with the sharp kink on its shoulder line below the rear quarter glass panel adding more dynamism to its design. 

Riding on 18-inch machined alloy wheels, the Omoda E5 has a sharply raked rear windscreen with a sporty-looking spoiler above it. The SUV has sleek LED tail lamps, which look funky with their boomerang-shaped outer corners while having a connected LED light bar running between them. 

Having independent Macpherson struts at the front and independent twist beam at the rear, the suspension setup of the Omoda 5 is complemented by the three driving modes on offer – Eco, Normal, and Sport. As the names suggest, these driving modes fine-tune the engine and steering feedback depending on the driver’s preferences. 

Powering the Omoda 5 is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is paired with a 9-speed CVT and churns out a maximum power output of 156 bhp and a maximum torque output of 230 Nm. The engine feels refined and stress-free most of the time, though the power delivery can be a bit inconsistent at times. 

There are a number of safety features that are available in the Omoda 5 as standard, including the basics like six airbags, electronic stability control, brake assist, ABS with EBD, traction control, hill start assist, hill descent control, front and rear parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring system. 

There’s also a comprehensive ADAS package on offer in the Omoda 5, the list of which includes lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure prevention, blind spot detection, emergency lane keeping, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, driver monitoring system, door open warning, traffic jam assist, integrated cruise assist, rear cross-traffic braking, rear collision warning, multi-collision brake, intelligent evasion system and departure reminder. 

Like many other Chinese SUVs, the Omoda 5 might not reflect the dynamism in its driving appeal and performance as it looks on paper. However, like them, the Omoda 5 too is rich in features, while having a dynamic design inside-out.
