MANILA: The 2024 season of the MSCC Mazda Miata Spec Series — one of the make-series motorsport events in the Philippines — will have its kick-off on May 25.

    Per Mazda Philippines, no mechanical breakdowns have been recorded in the past two seasons of the MSCC Miata Spec Series and said that the MX-5 Spec Series race cars “will go through an entire season only requiring consumables such as brake rotors and discs, and filters.”

    “What sets the MX-5 Spec Series cars apart from the others is that it remains road legal. It comes with a license plate, and with the climate control and infotainment system intact, it is not just good for the track, but for the road as well,” Mazda Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Steven Tan was quoted as saying.

    The Mazda MX-5 units in the racing series are equipped with the following fitments:

    • Mazdaspeed upper stress bar and front lower arm power brace
    • Cusco Sport S 24-way adjustable coil overs and sway bars (24 millimeters [mm> at the front, 14 mm at the rear)
    • GT Radial Champiro SX2 tires mounted on custom 17 x 8.0 J Rota Strike wheels
    • Autoexe stainless steel braided hose lines and Winmax brake pads.
    • Custom stainless steel exhaust system from Drift Xaust
    • Sparco R345 competition steering wheel
    • Grid-Q racing seat, and four-point harness,
    • Cusco six-point roll cage and safety net

    Further, Mazda’s distributor in the country said a handful of MX-5 Spec Series race cars being made available to the public for the first time since the series’ inception in 2022 — “due to popular demand.”

    “The MSCC Miata Spec Series draws people of various skill levels, and this has proven to be one of the main reasons for its continued success,” Tan shared.

    To participate in the MSCC Miata Spec Series, one has to secure only two requirements: an MX-5 Spec Series race car and membership to the Manila Sports Car Club. Since the MX-5 Spec Series race car is a recognized sportscar by the MSCC, a racer only needs an endorsement letter from a current MSCC member.

    Those who want to join may get the MX-5 Spec Series race car for P2.83 million. The pricing comes inclusive with all the fees for the entire four-round, eight-race season. They shall also receive 65 liters of Shell V-Power Racing, Shell Helix Ultra engine oil, and a set of new GT Radial Champiro SX2 tires.

    This year’s series will be conducted at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) and the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC) in an alternating manner.

    Below is the schedule for the 2024 MSCC Miata Spec Series:

    • First round: May 25, BRC
    • Second round: July 13, CIS
    • Third round: September 25, BRC
    • Final round: November 16, CIS
