35 Years More and the Toyota Cars Change
MANILA: Toyota, the leading auto manufacturer has always been up for revolution or evolution in the industry and the vision with which it is proceeding, it is surely going to be 'THE brand' of future. With an announcement of a radical environmental plan called as Environmental Challenge 2050, Toyota is in plans to phase out conventional gas and diesel engine in favor of alternative power sources by 2050. This means the reduced emission targets are the next thing and 35 years of time is a long span.
"You may think 35 years is a long time," Toyota senior managing officer Kiyotaka Ise recently said at a media event, as quoted by the AP. "But for an automaker to envision all combustion engines as gone is pretty extraordinary." As part of 35-year plan, Toyota targets 1.5 million hybrids and more than 30,000 fuel cell vehicles sold annually by 2020. At present, Toyota Prius, a hybrid variant and Toyota Mirai, a fuel cell vehicle are seen on roads.
Toyota says that they are “pushing for further advances related to electrified powertrains.” The company is looking for ways to make plug-in hybrids and fuel-cell vehicles, horses of long run while gradually moving into pure electric and mix of FCV's from 2030 onwards. As of now no details of what specific technologies Toyota will use are revealed but the company said that they aim to triple the energy density of current high-capacity lithium-ion batteries.
Apart from this cars, Toyota is also aiming for infrastructures and factories with zero emissions. Further, asking the government and business to spread the advantage of this new era of vehicles. Does that mean the brand will be completely ditching the gas-guzzling Toyotas by 2050?
