BOC donates 758 forfeited vehicles to gov’t agencies
MANILA: Officials of various government agencies will soon be moving around in SUVs (sport utility vehicles), vans, and wagons which are part of the 758 forfeited vehicles by the BOC (Bureau of Customs).
According to Customs Assistant Deputy Commissioner Jet Maronilla, these are second-hand vehicles confiscated by the agency at the Port of Aparri in Cagayan in 2013,
“These are the ones declared by the Supreme Court decision as covered by the prohibition of Executive Order 156 as amended,” said Maronilla a Viber message.
Executive Order 156 was signed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2002 and it banned the importation of used vehicles.
The PNP (Philippine National Police) received 120 units, the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) 60 vehicles, and the PSG (Presidential Security Group) were given five.
An additional 573 have been reserved for yet-to-be-named government agencies.
Present during the handover ceremonies were Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero together with the bureau’s deputy commissioners, representatives from the PNP headed by Brig. Gen. Angelito Casimero, the PSG headed by Maj. Rizza Mae San Agustin, Port of Aparri District Collector Arienito Claveria, Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) Deputy Administrator Agrimero Cruz, and Land Transportation Office (LTO)-Operations Division Chief Hanzley Lim.
This donation is a departure from the norm of destroying the seized vehicles through condemnation proceedings by the BOC.
