9th PIMS: Kia PH to launch EV9

MANILA: Kia is set to further expand its lineup in the country with the unveiling of the EV9.

Based on the invitation sent to Zigwheels Philippines, the Ayala-led automotive distributor shared that it will reveal “a new model that showcases the brand’s commitment to electrification” at the forthcoming 9th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). 

While the firm did not specifically identify the model that will be unveiled at the event, the company dropped a hint, saying that “the World Car of the Year is coming soon.”

To recall, it was early this year when the Kia EV9 received the 2024 World Car of the Year recognition — besting the likes of the BYD Seal (which will be revealed at the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit), and Volvo EX30.

Aside from that, the vehicle’s fascia seen in the invitation strongly resembles that of the Kia EV9.

While waiting for Kia Philippines to share the EV9’s full details, here are some of its possible specifications as seen in markets abroad.

Dimensions

The Kia EV9 measures 5,010 millimeters (mm) long; 1,980 mm wide; and up to 1,780 mm tall with a 3,100-mm wheelbase and around 200-mm ground clearance (depending on the trim).

The said numbers are complemented by the 20-degree approach and 22.8-degree departure angles — making the vehicle a capable off-roader.

Exterior

Sporting a smooth, boxy look, the Kia EV9 wears the Digital Tiger Face front fascia that comes with the Digital Pattern Lighting grille bordered by the vertical headlamps and Star Map LED daytime running lights.

Overseas, the Kia EV9 rides on 19-, 20-, or 21-inch wheels.

Interior

The upcoming offering may come in seven- or six-seater options that would go with various second-row seat configurations.

In other countries, the Kia EV9’s first row has relaxation seats while the second row offers four options, including three-seater bench, basic-type, relaxation-type, and swivel-type captain chairs.

Performance

The Kia EV9 is based on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) that carries the brand’s four-generation battery technology.

Retailed in rear-wheel- or all-wheel-drive variants, the model can reportedly cover as much as 239 kilometers and reach 100 kilometer per hour from rest in as fast as 5.3 seconds.

Amenities

Other amenities that might be fitted in the Philippine-spec Kia EV9 include the Integrated Charging Control Unit that allows vehicle-to-load functionality, as well as Level 3 autonomous driving technologies such as 15 sensors (including two lidars).
