A monster 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen is among the new BMW 7's toys

MANILA: BMW is driving the luxury segment into a new era that will be formed by breakthroughs in the domains of sustainability and technology. With the new BMW 7 Series, the world's leading premium car manufacturer is pioneering new ways to experience pure driving pleasure, unrivaled long-distance comfort, and cutting-edge digital features. The BMW i7 is at the heart of this reinvention. The all-electric luxury sedan is a fully integrated member of the 7 Series family, demonstrating how a unique driving experience and an uncompromising commitment to sustainability can be united.

The pinnacle of BMW's luxury line is encased in a new notion of luxury that puts importance on the individual and unique attitudes, needs, and passions. Aside from the presence, elegance, and exclusive premium quality, there is a a progressive approach that is defined by developments that directly improve the user experience, wide-ranging connectivity, and standard-setting sustainability of the new 7. Through this approach, the new BMW 7 Series has been developed to fulfill the needs of a customer that considers personal mobility as a chance to enjoy special moments in everyday life as well as on weekend getaways.

One of the three models available at launch is the 2023 BMW 740i. The BMW 740i's engine is a revamped version of the classic B58 three-liter TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine. The updated Miller cycle six-cylinder is now known as the B58TU2, and it has new intake ports and combustion chambers, as well as an electronically controlled VANOS variable camshaft timing system and 48-volt mild hybrid technology. All of this adds up to a classic BMW outcome: increased power and reduced emissions.

Meanwhile, the 760i xDrive fuses the 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8's unrelenting power with BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. The new V8 is based on BMW Motorsport and has a new exhaust manifold, external oil cooling, and improved turbocharging. The V8, too, gets 48V mild hybrid technology, and with the electric motor combined with the new eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, gives the double benefits of better response and power output under acceleration, and greater efficiency, thanks to adaptive recuperation.

The 7 Series is now available in fully electric form for the first time in its history. With two highly efficient electric motors with a total output of 536hp and 549lb-ft of torque, the i7 xDrive60 can accelerate from zero to 60mph in about 4.5 seconds while delivering an estimated range of up to 300 zero-emission miles in absolute silence and genuine luxury.

The BMW 7 Series has epitomized the idea of very elite individual mobility in its very own, very BMW way since the first generation debuted in 1977. A design expressing distinguished elegance has gone hand-in-hand with superior interior comfort and the thrilling driving experience for which the brand is known for. This combination has always provided a degree of dynamic handling that is unrivaled in the luxury sedan class. With each new generation, the 7 Series improves on its remarkable driving qualities while also increasing levels of comfort and well-being.

Forty-five years after the debut of the BMW 7 Series, its seventh generation takes the stage as the most innovative car in the luxury market. At the same time, the latest iteration captivates the imagination with unrivaled overall design consistency. The BMW 7 Series is once again a representation of the BMW Group's innovative power.

The new BMW 7 Series' evocative design characteristics accurately represent its position atop the BMW luxury class and the promise of an unparalleled on-board experience. The new 7 Series has a muscular and prominent stance, thanks to its vertically pronounced front end, which has the optional illuminated BMW kidney grille as its centerpiece and two-piece split headlight units. The front-end design, which was created exclusively for BMW's flagship models, allows for clear differentiation from the rest of the lineup.

The rear of the new BMW 7 Series is also formed by a distinctly divided surface design, similar to the front end. Horizontal lines highlight the car's width here as well. The license plate mount is placed in the lower area of the rear apron, resulting in dynamic light and shadow effects.

The car's flanks are illuminated by slim LED rear light units that convey elegance. This evolution into the side surfaces is enhanced by a delicate patterning in the glass lenses. An integrated chrome strip and the rear light bars placed below it make the iconic "L" shape seen on other BMW models. Two slim strips below the main rear lights produce the braking and turn indicator lights.

The driver and passengers will find modern luxury on the inside of the new BMW 7 Series. The special on-board experience for both the driver and passengers is based on a carefully selected material combination, expert craftsmanship of the highest caliber, and a clearly structured, minimalist interior design. The smart combination of high-tech control/operation, connectivity, driver assistance, infotainment, and digitalization solutions encounter generous amounts of space here.

The brand-typical driver-focused cockpit design has been reimagined in a progressive approach. The number of buttons, switches, and controls in the cockpit can be greatly reduced, thanks to digitalization. Fineline Black with Metallic Inlay on the 740i and 760i xDrive, and Mirror Oak High Gloss on the i7 xDrive60, are standard inside trim strips for the instrument panel. They serve as a beautiful backdrop for the BMW Curved Display. A 12.3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and a 14.9-inch control display screen make up the fully digital screen grouping. The screens are ergonomically oriented towards the driver and are placed beneath a shared glass surface, making the already simple touch control much straightforward.

The state-of-the-art graphics on the BMW Curved Display, as well as the operating system's menu layout, have been developed to seem like a smartphone. The user interface is appealing, with dynamic light effects, deep color depth, and modern color palettes that alter depending on the My Mode selected. The information display's graphical layout as well as the text provided in the center of the display can both be customized to fit the scenario and requirements. The driver can also customize the clearly ordered arrangement of widgets on the control display's home screen to provide a simple overview of menu selections. A favorites bar can be used to save frequently used functions.

The BMW Interaction Bar is a new type of control/operation and design element that debuts in the new 7 Series. This functional unit spans from below the trim strip across the whole width of the instrument panel and deep into the door panel trim, and features a crystalline surface structure with theatrical backlighting. Touch-sensitive control panels allow the driver to change the ventilation and climate settings, as well as turn on the hazard warning lights and unlock the glove compartment. The BMW Interaction Bar's light design is inspired by the color palette of the My Mode setting selected or can be customized by the user.

The clean structure of the instrument panel is carried over into the door trim design. Each rear door has a digital control unit built into the trim. This 5.5-inch color display with touchscreen capabilities lets passengers select their preferred entertainment program, visual display, and volume when using the BMW Theater Screen in vehicles equipped with it. The audio system, climate control features, seat adjustment settings, ambient lighting, and rear sunshades can all be controlled through the touchscreens.

The Executive Lounge option provides exceptional rear compartment seating comfort. It has a reclining function for the space behind the front passenger seat with an integrated leg rest, as well as an optionally quilted and heated armrest with a high-quality glass inlay and an inbuilt smartphone tray for wireless charging. An incredibly comfortable reclining position is achieved by coordinating the backrest angle and backrest upper section angle, forward/back position, and seat surface tilt. The backrest can be reclined to a maximum of 42.5 degrees, which is the industry standard. Individually adjustable neck cushions and remarkably more headroom than the previous model also contribute to improved travel comfort.

Another highlight of the options available for the new BMW 7 Series is the BMW Theater Screen with built-in Amazon Fire TV, which includes a 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen display with Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound system with optional in-seat bass drivers, built-in touch screen remotes in the door panels (BMW Touch Command), and an automated rear shade system that closes when the BMW Theater Screen is switched on.

Passengers can watch movies, play games, listen to music, find information, and watch downloaded programs in up to 4K/UHD resolution on the BMW Theater Screen with Amazon Fire TV.

The pricing for the BMW 7 Series models starts at US$93,300. US market launch is set for the fourth quarter of 2022. BMW has started accepting pre-orders for the first-ever i7 since yesterday, April 20.
