A Must Read for Future VW Polo Buyers
MANILA: First it came as a shock than things started getting uglier, and as we tried to come over it, we were again struck hard. This time, it happened in the Indian subcontinent of which the Philippines is a part. To be precise, Volkswagen India yesterday made an announcement under which it asked all its dealers present nationwide to stop physical delivery of Polo, one of VW's best-selling cars in the country. The dealers nationwide were told, “We request, not to physically deliver any Polo vehicle (all variants) with immediate effect till further notice from VW”
Yes, you heard it right, Polo. The Philippines too has the same model, but any such announcement is not yet made by the company here. But still, with such a scenario building in India, it surely becomes a point to worry if you were looking to buy a Polo in near future.
Though, back in India, VW said that the recent fallout was nowhere related to the software scandal, but was due to some 'technical reason', information about which is not known. A company spokesman said, “Volkswagen India has confirmed a temporary hold on deliveries of its carline Polo due to a technical reason which is currently under evaluation. Volkswagen further confirms that deliveries for the non-impacted Polo range continue as per schedule." The statement also said that the temporarily hold on Polo's delivery is “not related to the ongoing EA 189 diesel engine topic.”
All this happened in the midst of the evaluation process, under which VW was busy drawing its impact story for the Indian market, after the unveiling of the recent software manipulation. In addition, Indian Government asked the Automotive Research Association of the country to probe if VW has fitted its cars here with the same 'defeat device' as it did in the U.S.
