A quick-fix VW Action Plan – by Matthias Mullar
MANILA: The title may seem a little like a book label, but believe it you guys the action plan to be adopted by VW will be no less than a novel length. The mess VW has created needs some thorough study and then it needs some honest intelligent men to come up with a correction and image improvement plan. Well, with the exit of Martin Winterkorn and few more biggies and entry of Mullar and Dr. Winfried Vahland, this mission seems to be getting some real life image.
We earlier reported you that German government has given the scandal-some Volkswagen group a deadline of 7th October to come up with a correction plan. In the light of same we have recently been informed that this black-faced auto giant has started working in the same direction and has come up with the following strategy.
- First of all, VW will pass on the information to all the affected customers and keep them updated about the future correction plans to follow. The brand also informed that apart from the engine, everything else is safe and sound.
- Volkswagen and its other sub-branches like Audi, Skoda, and Seat will soon present technical solutions to the responsible authorities.
- To keep the customers updated, the brand has decided to create national websites.
- The brand further informed that out of the total 11 million affected vehicles, five million will be recalled.
- To the list of affected engines are Type EA 189 Euro 5 diesel engine, fitted in Mk6 Golf, seventh generation Passat and Tiguan and Type EA
- Brand informed that the correction process will include a software and hardware changes. Software replacement is a quick process while the latter on will take few hours
- These up-gradations will lead to an increment in CO2 emission and fuel consumption, but at the same time keeping the two under the prescribed limit
- The cars fitted with 1.2 and 1.6-litre power mill only require a hardware change; a fuel injection replacement
- On the other hand, the 2.0-litre engine will require a software update for Europe.
In addition, Volkswagen group further informed that all the cars under scan are not ill as the software implanted are not activated in all the cars. Also, the brand confirmed that the latest vehicles fitted with EU6 engine are free from defect and are good to go.
