A Toyota Recall that Doesn't Include Takata for a Change, Latest from the U.S

MANILA: Yes, we know it’s hard to believe but trust us it's true, a Toyota recall, that too airbag related with no Takata name involved. Well, this time, it seems to be a manufacturing fault rather than Takata that let’s the side curtain airbag to deploy shortly after start up, making the situation highly-risky for occupants. The recall is not just restricted to the sudden airbag outburst but goes further to sudden activation of seat belt pre-tensioners for unknown reasons.

Well, as it’s said, there's always a first time, so this event marks the first recall of 2016. In the year 2015, the Japanese auto giant made headlines year round over the recall issue, wherein Takata played the protagonist. With its unforgettable performance (Takata) not just restricted to Toyota, but also left bold imprints on brands like Nissan, Ford and Mazda. All of which end up breaking ties with this Japanese car part manufacturer. Honda too was a part of this gang-up against Takata, as the brand recalled as many as 4.5 million cars in 2015.

Coming back to the recent United States recall issue, it was on 2nd February 2016 when the company announced that they are recalling around 320,000 cars from all over the country. The list of Toyota cars recalled in the U.S include-

2003-2004 Land Cruiser

2004-2006 4Runner

2005-2006 Tundra & Sequoia

2003-2006 LX 470

2004-2006 GX 470

The owners of the affected vehicles will be intimated by a personal mail and the defected part will be replaced free of cost. A source close to Toyota informed that, "TMC is currently preparing the necessary remedial parts which will be shipped to authorized distributors worldwide. A Special Service Campaign will be announced when the parts are available."

No such intimation has been given by Toyota Philippines, but if in case you witness any such problem or any other issue for that matter, we advise you to visit the closest dealership. Toyota has informed its costumers to keep checking its recall dedicated web-page: toyota.com/recall, wherein they can enter the vehicle identification number and know the status of their respective cars. Alternatively, NHTSA site can also be used for the same purpose.
