ACMobility to grow 1 tree per BYD car sold

MANILA: ACMobility will grow (not just plant) one tree for every BYD electric car it sells in the country.

Per the distributor of the Chinese electric vehicle brand in the Philippines, the said initiative is part of ACMobility and BYD’s shared sustainability goals.

“BYD is known not only for technology and innovation. The corporate goal of BYD is to cool the earth by one percent — and that’s through sustainable transportation. And this corporate goal of BYD blends so well into Ayala’s own sustainability objectives,” ACMobility Head of Automotive Retail and Distribution Antonio Zara III said in a press conference.

“Today we are announcing the expansion of ACMobility’s ACRE Movement to include BYD operations,” he added.

“For all cars we will be selling, we will not only be plating — but growing — one tree for every car that we sell,” the ACMobility executive noted.

“Today, we are signing that MOU (memorandum of agreement) to expand ACRE Movement to include BYD,” he announced.

Per Zara, the trees will be planted in one of Ayala’s two carbon forests. One of which is in Bulacan while the other is in Davao.

As of March 2023, ACRE Movement has already planted some 3,293 trees.

How it works

During the same presser, Ayala Land Sustainability Unit Program Manager Anna Maria Gonzales told attendees that BYD passenger cars dealers will collect the names of the buyers for the month and send them to Ayala’s real estate arm.

Ayala Land’s sustainability unit will then plant the trees in one of the company’s carbon forests and geotag the trees so BYD car owners can check out the location and look at where their trees are.

“The buyer will be informed,” Gonzales stated.

“What the dealer does is they list down all the buyers for the month and send it to us. And then depending on the season — because we do not plant when it’s dry — we will plant them all together,” she explained.

“If something happens to the tree, we replace it,” Gonzales commented.

BYD offerings in PH

BYD’s offerings in the Philippines are made up of fully electric cars.

The company’s lineup includes models like the Atto 3, Dolphin, Han, and Tang. The marque is set to unveil more offerings in the second half of the year. While the specific model to be introduced in the country is yet to be confirmed, Zigwheels Philippines believes it could possibly be the Seagull and Seal.
