Which is the most value-for-money variant of the BYD Atto 3?

Available in two variants, the BYD Atto 3 is the most sensible to buy in its Premium variant. It is priced slightly higher than the Dynamic variant, offering the same performance with a front-mounted single-motor setup. However, the Premium variant justifies its premium positioning with a larger battery pack, resulting in a higher maximum range. What features does the BYD Atto 3 get?

Starting with the exterior, the BYD Atto 3 comes with LED headlamps with auto on/off function as standard, though the headlamps of the Premium variant are adaptive. The Premium variant also gets heated rearview mirrors, roof rails, and puddle lamps over the Dynamic variant. However, both the variants of the BYD Atto 3 electric crossover have standard features like front LED daytime running lights, electrically adjustable and foldable rearview mirrors with integrated turn indicators, LED tail lamps with connected LED light bar and rear wiper, washer, and defogger. While the Dynamic variant has 17-inch alloy wheels, the Premium variant has larger 18-inch alloy wheels.

The BYD Atto 3 has a length of 4,455 mm, a width of 1,875 mm, and a height of 1,615 mm. Its wheelbase is 2,720 mm, and the boot space is 440 litres. However, the Atto 3 has 60:40 split seats as standard, which, after folding, increases the boot space to 1,340 litres. 

What engine and transmission options are available?

Both variants of the BYD Atto 3 have a front-mounted electric motor as standard, which churns out a maximum power output of 204 bhp and a peak torque output of 310 Nm. Offered with three driving modes—Economy, Normal, and Sport—the BYD Atto 3 takes 7.3 seconds for the 0-100 kmph run and has a top speed of 160 mph.

What’s the mileage of the BYD Atto 3?

The BYD Atto 3 Dynamic variant has a 49.9kWh battery that claims a 410 km range, while the 60.5kWh battery of the Premium variant has a maximum range of 480 km. The charging times are 7.5 hours for 0-100% for the Dynamic variant and 8.5 hours for 0-100% for the Premium variant using an AC charger, and 30 minutes for 30-80% SoC using a fast DC charger.

How safe is the BYD Atto 3?

The BYD Atto 3 is loaded with safety features, with the standard ones in both variants including front and side airbags, front seat belt reminders, traction control, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, hill descent control, reverse parking sensors and camera, manual cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring system and ISOFIX mounts for child seats. Coming from the stable of one of the newest car brands, the BYD Atto 3 has fast climbed the ladders of success with its keen focus on technology and new-age appeal. The exterior design looks fresh, the cabin feels futuristic, the performance and range from both battery options are appreciable, and there is decent space for five people in the cabin. 

What are my alternatives?

The only direct rival of the BYD Atto 3 in the compact electric SUV category is the MG ZS EV. However, for its price, you can also consider electric hatchbacks like the MG 4 EV and GWM Ora 03.
