All-electric Porsche Macan to debut on Jan. 25

MANILA: The new all-electric Porsche Macan will make its global debut on January 25 in Singapore.

As the first Porsche to be built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), the next-generation Macan is a completely new development.

Porsche has equipped the new Macan with the latest permanently excited synchronous electric motors (PSM), which deliver overboost power of more than 450 kilowatts (kW).

Compared to the Taycan’s motors, the water jacket cooling in the Macan was optimized to maximize the power density. The double V lamination, or the placement of the magnets within the rotors, is an illustration of the additional major improvements made to PSMs.

With Launch Control in the top model, the electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management can produce more than 1,000 Newton-meters of torque in almost real time.

The engineers have also included a Porsche Active Suspension Management system with two-valve damper technology, air suspension, rear-axle transverse lock, and, for the first time, rear-axle steering with a steering angle of up to five degrees in order to provide the of high performance and comfort for which the Macan is renowned.

Providing energy to the Macan’s electric motors is the 100-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery in the underbody. High-performance fast charging is made possible by the 800-volt PPE architecture.

The battery of the all-electric compact sport utility vehicle is made up of 12 modules with prismatic cells. It has an improved energy density, thanks to the 8:1:1 mixing ratio of nickel, cobalt, and manganese.

At 800-volt charging stations, the new Macan can get up to 270 kW of direct current of charging power. At 400-volt charging stations, the charge level can be boosted from 10 to 80 percent in less than 22 minutes.

Bank charging is made possible by a high-voltage switch in the battery, which divides the 800-volt battery into two batteries with rated voltages of 400 volts each. This allows for highly efficient charging at up to 150 kW without the need for an additional high-voltage booster.
