All-new Acura TLX is brand's fastest, best handling, and most well-appointed sedan
MANILA: Acura has just unveiled the all-new 2021 Acura TLX, the most well-appointed, best-handling, and fastest sedan in the 35-year history of the auto brand. Completely redesigned based on the Precision Crafted Performance (PCP) concept of Acura, the new sedan will be rolled out in various markets by early fall this year.
The new TLX brings benefits in both dynamic performance and design through its sporty stance with bold proportions, all-turbo engine lineup, and a model-exclusive chassis layout and body structure.
In accomplishing its aim to be a systematically modern sports sedan, the 2021 TLX incorporates numerous connectivity technologies, comfort, and performance first introduced on the successful third-generation Acura RDX.
The all-new 2021 Acura TLX features the Acura PCP-influenced silhouette, broad and low stance, and powerful and athletic exterior design with proportions. The performance intentions of the new TLX are shown through its prominent rear haunches, tapered greenhouse, expansive hood, and long dash-to-axle dimension.
Compared to the previous model, the new 2021 TLX also boasts a lower roof, a broader body with wider rear and front tracks, and a longer wheelbase. On the front are the iconic, next-generation Acura lighting cues seen in the Type S concept flank, and the more upright and bolder diamond pentagon grille of the vehicle. These also include Acura ARX-05 Daytona Prototype inspired bright-white “Chicane” LED-daytime running lights, and Jewel Eye LED headlights consisting of four LED elements.
The new chassis of the all-new 2021 Acura TLX marks the comeback of the double-wishbone front suspension to the best-selling sedan of Acura. It provides more accurate cornering grip and handling, and more significant mechanical compliance for enhanced ride quality. Moreover, the TLX chassis integrates several new performance-concentrated engineering enhancements, which include an available driver-selectable adaptive damper system, electro-servo brake-by-wire technology used from the NSX, and an adjustable-ratio steering system.
The new TLX also provides two high-torque and powerful turbocharged engines. Standard power is acquired from a 2.0-liter turbocharged and DOHC direct-injected engine with VTEC merged to the exceptionally responsive ten-speed automatic transmission with sequential sportshift of the auto brand.
Having a torque of 380 Nm and a peak output of 272 hp, the 2.0-liter turbo of the new TLX has the highest horsepower in its primary competitive group, bringing remarkable gains in torque and horsepower as compared to the naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine of the previous model.
The second-generation TLX also signifies the expected comeback of the Acura Type S high-performance variant after several decades. Moreover, the new TLX Type S will be the first Type S model to possess the torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) technology of Acura. This technology allows it to be the most performance-oriented and excellent handling Acura sedan, among others.
When the TLX Type S arrives in Acura dealerships next year, it will bring power from an all-new 3.0-liter, 24-valve turbocharged and DOHC direct-injected engine that the most competent powertrain engineers of the company have developed. Other developers of this engine are the team members that also created the modified twin-turbocharged V6 hybrid power unit of the NSX.
Excellent handling capabilities are currently provided on all TLX models with the rear-biased SH-AWD, an industry-leading system supplied as standard technology on the TLX Type S and as alternative equipment on the 2.0-liter TLX. The Acura SH-AWD technology in the new TLX delivers a maximum of 70% engine torque to the rear axle, especially during typical driving situations, while continuously allocating up to 100% of this rear-axle torque between either the right or left rear wheels.
Both the front passenger and driver also gain from the custom-made design of the advanced front sport seats of the Acura. For the driver, enhanced forward visibility, vivid and clean instrumentation, and a stout leather-covered steering wheel, are the foundations for a thrilling and in-command driving experience.
All 2021 TLX models will be fully armed with the AcuraWatch group of advanced driver-assistive and safety technologies standard. This includes numerous new features like traffic jam assist (TJA), driver awareness monitor, and traffic sign recognition (TSR). Working with the low speed follow and adaptive cruise control, the traffic jam assist aids in minimizing driver stress in congested traffic situations by keeping the vehicle in its lane and on a specific set interval behind a car that is right ahead.
The all-new Acura 2021 TLX also brings advanced degrees of passive safety (collision protection) performance through the utilization of the proprietary advanced compatibility engineering (ACE) body structure of Acura. It has been polished to offer additional passenger protection in a broader range of collision situations.
