All-new BMW 4 Series Convertible gets a host of upgrades and a soft top
MANILA: BMW has introduced the all-new second-generation 4 Series Convertible, a new four-seater that is said to be worth of the title “The Ultimate Driving Machine” due to its performance, state-of-the-art technology, low-slung shoulder line, and modern design.
The most significant modification from the previous generation is the transition from hardtop to a newly built soft-top, which offers numerous advantages such as a lower center of gravity, more cargo space, and lesser weight for enhanced handling.
The top of the new 4 Series Convertible utilizes large panel bow elements with a honeycomb-like design, a two-color fabric cover, multiple layers of insulation, and a flush-fitting glass rear window.
The soft-top roof color options include an optional Moonlight black that provides a stylish metallic shimmer under direct sunlight and a standard black color.
Once it closes, the smooth surface enhances the aerodynamics of the 4 Series Convertible and decreases wind noise.
Aside from being higher, longer, and wider than its predecessor, the new 2021 4 Series Convertible includes a 1.6-inch-longer wheelbase, a front track that is longer by 1.5 inches, a new BMW kidney grille design, standard LED headlights with two U-shaped daytime running light elements per headlight, standard 18 x 7.5-inch alloy wheels with all-season run-flat tires, and L-shaped LED taillights.
The overall appearance of the new 4 Series Convertible showcases the minimalist and clean iconic lines of the new model — a broad and low muscular profile with the roof down and a notchback silhouette with the roof up.
The M Sport Package features a revised rear bumper with Shadowline inlays and distinctly designed front bumper with larger air intake openings.
The exterior design of the M440i xDrive and M440i Convertible is differentiated by a Cerium Grey finish on the kidney grille, a rear trapezoidal exhaust tip trim, exterior mirror caps, and front air intake trim.
The 430i and 430i xDrive Convertibles offer two standard non-metallic paints along with seven optional metallic finishes, three of which are new colors.
On the other hand, the M440i and M440i xDrive Convertible provide an option of one standard non-metallic color, two optional individual metallic paints, and five optional metallic finishes.
The new 430i xDrive and 430i Convertible are powered by an upgraded B46 2.0-liter four-cylinder BMW TwinPower turbocharged engine that generates 400Nm of torque and 255hp.
As for the new M440i and M440i xDrive Convertible, these models are powered by the B58 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder BMW TwinPower turbocharged engine that produces 500Nm of torque and 382hp.
The new BMW 4 Series Convertibles come in an option of either the newest intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive (AWD) system of BMW that provides additional traction during extreme weather conditions, or the conventional rear-wheel drive (RWD).
The optional Adaptive M Suspension puts together the outstanding attributes of the M Sport suspension with electronic shocks to provide a broad range of modifications from sport to comfort.
A premium driver-centric cockpit is the main highlight of the new 4 Series Convertible’s interior design. The leather sport steering wheel and newly styled front power sport seats come as standard.
The new 4 Series Convertible also features a center display screen with start/stop button, the iDrive Controller, gear selector lever, and the buttons for the Driving Experience Control switch.
Other features include the trunk area and door courtesy lights, sun visor mirrors, center armrest storage compartment, glovebox, storage trays and compartments, and lighting for rear and front interior.
The cover which is located at the front of the center console opens with the push of a button to unveil a USB port, a 12V socket, and two cupholders.
The optional interior ambient lighting can be adjusted for the contour lines, seen across the door and instrument panels.
The iDrive 7 with intuitive operation comes as a standard for the new BMW 4 Series Convertible.
Numerous options are also available to initiate interaction with the new model, and these include the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel through the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, the iDrive controller, and the touchscreen center control display.
The new 2021 BMW 4 Series Convertible provides standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility with access to a wide range of digital services like Google Maps, Google Assistant, the WhatsApp messaging service, and music streaming services such as Amazon Music and Spotify.
A SensaTec dashboard also comes as a standard on the M440i xDrive and M440i models, and for the 430i and 430i xDrive Convertible, it is an optional feature.
The 2021 BMW 4 Series Convertible is fitted with standard assist features that are configured to provide enhanced driving comfort and peace of mind to the occupants.
These features include speed limit information, automatic high beams, rear collision preparation, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot detection, pedestrian warning with braking function, frontal collision, and lane departure warning with steering connection.
The Driving Assistance Professional Package is optional on the new BMW 4 Series. The package features the extended traffic jam assist and active cruise control with stop and go.
