All New Toyota 86 is Here, As Expected Looks Similar to Subaru BR-Z
MANILA: The much acclaimed Toyota 86 is here, all good, taking place of FR-S. Most people around the world are aware of Toyota's performance kid which is on sale by the name of Toyota 86. This car has been around for years now satisfying speed lovers zooming craving for years now. As per recent updates from Toyota, the company has revised 86 to match the growing demands of customers. The said update came all the way from New York, where the car currently is on display.
The all-new Toyota 86 is sharing the stage with the 2017 Toyota Prius Prime. Allowing Toyota to show its diversification with two of its best creations in two entirely different fronts - one being a sports buff ( who else than 86) and other being the mileage and nature lover (Prius Prime is the answer).
But that's not all about the 2017 Toyota 86. The car holds an entire list of interesting facts attached to itself.
- Like for example, 2017 Toyota 86 is the reincarnated version of Scion FR-S. Those of you who aren’t aware of the situation, we'll like to inform you that only a few days back Toyota completely took over Scion, thus allowing it to rebadged and sell all Scion cars under its name.
- Secondly, Toyota 86 carries a lot of similarity with the recently spied Subaru BR-Z. Again, it's no coincidence, the reason behind such close proximity is Toyota-Subaru partnership (in sports car manufacturing front).
We have already shown you the all-new Subaru BR-Z, revealing some of its major transformations and following it were some not so good spied shoots of the same. But now with Toyota 86 2017 New York launch we can have a good idea about the same. As both cars carry more or less same design, cabin and under hood configuration.
Below are mentioned some major similarities and dissimilarities between Toyota 86 & Subaru BR-Z
Engine - Under the hood both the cars hold same powertrain. Both Toyota and Subaru have tweaked the existing 2.0L boxer mill enabling it to generate additional power 5 hp and peak torque of 7 Nm respectively. In addition, the mill under both the sports cars will come mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, supplying power to all four wheels.
Suspension - New Toyota 86 has confirmed a suspension revision. So, the car will now feature re-tuned shock absorbers and tweaked spring rate, all enhancing driver's control and handling. As for new Subaru BR-Z, we are still awaiting for companies word.
Exterior - On the exterior front both the cars look more or less same, with only some minute differences. Like the air intakes and air vents design in both the cars are distinct. Rest all from headlamps to taillights is similar.
Interior - Toyota 86 2017 is a completely re-designed car and same holds good for its interior too. Cabin area is covered with Grandlux, a combination of leather and Alcantara and over it is present Toyota's standard silver stitching. This in Subaru is replaced by red thread lining, following company's long tradition. Also, present in both are bigger paddle shifters, multi-functional steering wheel and a multi-functional infotainment system.
Launch - As for now Toyota 86 launch is now available for sale in the American market, with its Philippines debut is due somewhere in Q3 of this year. On the other hand, 2017 Subaru BR-Z , the company is yet to decide over its first world debut.
