All-new Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Series launches in Japan, gets limited First Edition models

MANILA: Toyota Motor Corporation has launched the all-new Land Cruiser 250 Series in Japan, alongside limited ZX First Edition and VX First Edition models.

Per the carmaker, the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Series, also called the Land Cruiser Prado in other markets, was developed to be the “core model” of the Land Cruiser lineup.

Toyota explained that the all-new Land Cruiser 250 Series, having dropped the Prado moniker in Japan, now slots between the universal, utilitarian Land Cruiser 70 Series and the more opulent, luxurious Land Cruiser 300.

On that note, the Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Series will fulfill the role of offering customers a practical sport utility vehicle (SUV) with a strong off-road performance.

Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Series Japan-market specs

In Japan, the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Series shares the same underpinning as the Land Cruiser 300 Series.

That said, it gets features like electric power steering (EPS) and stabilizer with disconnection mechanism (SDM). EPS — Toyota pointed out — reduces kickback during off-road driving while SDM allows the front stabilizer to be locked or unlocked at the touch of a button.

According to Toyota, application of EPS and SMD on the Land Cruiser 250 Series makes it easier to handle and provides the SUV driving performance and ride comfort during off-road and handling stability when on-road.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Series is offered with two powertrain options: a 2.8-liter direct-injection turbo diesel mill mated to a Direct Shift eight-speed automatic transmission and a 2.7-liter gasoline power plant paired with a six-speed Super ECT (electronically-controlled transmission).

Power is transferred to all four wheels thanks to a full-time four-wheel drive system with Torsten limited slip differential.

Limited ZX First Edition, VX First Edition

Toyota also released two limited special-edition models in Japan, dubbed the Land Cruiser Special Edition ZX First Edition and Land Cruiser Special Edition VX First Edition, to commemorate the launch of the all-new 250 Series.

The Land Cruiser Special Edition ZX First Edition is equipped with round bi-beam LED headlamps, matte black painted aluminum wheels, and 18-inch off-road tires. It is also powered by a 2.8-liter diesel engine.

On the other hand, the Land Cruiser Special Edition VX First Edition gets an exclusive Sand finish with a Dark Chestnut interior. Notable features include the Toyota Safety Sense and Toyota Teammate with technologies like emergency steering assist, front cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, advanced drive, and driver monitor camera.

Both the Toyota Land Cruiser Special Edition ZX First Edition and Land Cruiser Special Edition VX First Edition are fitted with genuine leather covers with exclusive decorations, synthetic leather-wrapped door trim ornaments with “FIRST EDITION” logo, and instrument panel decorations with exclusive titanium film and chrome.

Only 8,000 units of the special edition Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Series models will be sold in Japan.
