Are we about to have the Hyundai Reina?
MANILA: Since yesterday, Hyundai Philippines has been teasing the automobile fanatics with some images of what could very well be the Reina. Set to launch on 31 January 2019, the car teased has been captioned “R you ready to meet the one?”
While it has not been too long since the South Korean carmaker launched the all-new Accent, we are about to be treated once again with a new offering.
The image which Hyundai has shared on its official Facebook page does not reveal much of the car. However, we still get an angular look at the car from the front right quarter panel. Packing a slightly similar look to the Accent, the car in the image can be distinguished from the Accent if you pay attention to small details.
The quirky creases on the hood, headlights, and other elements make the car appear to be the Reina. In case you’re wondering, the Hyundai Reina is a sedan sold in the Chinese market manufactured in Beijing in conjunction with BAIC.
The news suggesting that Hyundai will bring "China factory-specific models" in other ASEAN countries is floating around since last year. The exports have been led by the low sales number in China and Hyundai is looking at the other ASEAN countries as its saviour. Standing at 4300 mm long,
1705 mm wide, and 1460 mm tall along with a wheelbase of 2570 mm, the Reina is a tad smaller than the Accent. Just like the Accent, the Hyundai Reina also houses a 1.4-litre D-CVVT motor, however, with lesser power. The engine inside the Reina produces 95 PS of maximum power, 5 PS less than the Accent.
The peak torque, on the other hand, is identical at 132 Nm. A 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic are the two transmission options available.
Equipped with an automatic start/stop for better fuel efficiency, the Hyundai Reina also gets features like Apple CarPlay connectivity, hill-hold control, and stability control among others. In case the new car turns out to be the Reina, the sedan should carry a lower price tag than the Accent.
