Audi and Porche collectively working on new V6 and V8 turbocharge engines
MANILA: Turbo trend is catching up in the auto world, but this trend is not just limited to the conventional turbine-driven forced induction device that increases engine's efficiency and power output. Auto engineers are developing new technologies that can be integrated with the turbochargers, further enhancing cars performance. One latest example adding to this development is the collaboration of Audi and Porsche that aims towards creating a new range of turbocharged V6 and V8 engines.
Current generation Audi and Porsche V6 and V8 petrol mill are set to gain new 90-degree architecture. Both the engines will feature the same 500cc cylinder capacity, giving the refurbished V6 and V8 engine total displacement of 3.0L and 4.0L respectively.
The initial lot of the new V6 and V8 engines will generate forced induction via gas driven turbocharger, however it is rumored that both the auto giants are planning to introduce an electric turbocharger in the near future, giving new heights to your car performance.
This new technology has opened end possibilities for the two automakers, allowing them to play with engine capacity. According to the sources, Audi in the near future is expected to come up with a smaller 2.5L V6 engine, coupled with an Atkinson-cycle combustion process, currently seen on the new A4 2.0 TFSI Ultra.
Audi new engineering program with VW sister company Porsche runs under the internal code name KoVoMo (a play on the German words Konzern Vee Otto Motoren). The new V6 and V8 engines will benefit the future Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Volkswagen and possibly Lamborghini models.
