KEY TAKEAWAYS
What made the Audi Q5's IIHS rating significant?
The Audi Q5 rating was received following the creation of a more stringent criteria in terms of rating the vehicle. What are the two Audi Q5's variants in the Philippines?
Audi Philippines offers the Q5 in two trims: the gasoline-fed S Line TFSI and the diesel-powered S Line TDI.Judging based on the vehicle’s crashworthiness, crash avoidance systems and lighting technology, the midsize luxury sport utility vehicle from the Ingolstadt-headquartered marque received a "Top Safety Pick" rating from the organization.
The evaluation was given following the updated criteria that has become more stringent.
To get an upgraded Top Safety Pick rating, a vehicle must now earn “Good” ratings in the driver- and passenger-side small front overlap and original moderate overlap front collision tests; an “Acceptable” or “Good” rating in the updated side test; and a front crash prevention system that earns an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating in the daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluation. Vehicles must also come equipped with “Acceptable” or “Good” headlights across all trims.
Per Audi, it continues to raise the bar in lighting technology. The digitization of lighting systems has enabled the brand to offer completely new functions that significantly increase safety.
The new Audi Q5 comes with matrix LED headlamps that have intelligent high beam functions —intelligently adapt to conditions without dazzling other road users.
Audi, through its importer PGA Cars, offers the Q5 in two trims: the gasoline-fed S Line TFSI and the diesel-powered S Line TDI.
Both trims feature a wider octagonal Singleframe grille, taller side air intakes with trapezoidal insets, updated side sill inserts, a smoother trim between the rear light clusters, and a bolder rear diffuser insert with a horizontal fin.
Powering the new Audi Q5 S Line TFSI is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged gasoline mill that can deliver 265 horsepower and 370 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. On the other hand, the model’s S Line TDI is propelled by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine — capable of dishing out 204 horses and 400 Nm of pulling power.
Both engines are mated to a seven-speed S-tronic transmission that sends power to Audi’s quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.
