AVID sales inch up by 3% to 5,401 units in Feb.
MANILA: The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, Inc. (AVID) recorded a total of 5,401 units sold in February, which is 3% higher compared to the 5,262 units that were sold in January 2021. However, year-to-date, sales dropped by 10.3% from 11,890 units sold last year before the pandemic versus 10,663 units sold in 2021.
In the passenger car segment, AVID reported a 12% increase with 1,518 units sold in February versus 1,350 units sold in January. Year-to-date, it recorded a 19% dip from 3,540 units sold in 2020 to 2,868 units in 2021. Suzuki was the top selling passenger car brand in February 2021, moving a total of 1,334 units. It was followed by Hyundai with total sales of 1,095 units since the beginning of the year.
AVID has recorded a 2% decrease in light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales or 3,728 units sold in February versus the 3,794 units sold in January. Year-to-date, LCV sales slumped by 9% with 7,522 units versus the 8,264 units sold in February 2020. Ford led the LCV segment with total sales of 3,228 units. It was followed by Suzuki with 1,735 units sold. Hyundai took third place with 1,322 units sold.
In the commercial vehicle (CV) segment, Hyundai has recorded a huge 217% increase, year to date, with a total of 273 units sold in 2021 versus the 86 units that were moved in 2020. In February alone, Hyundai reported a 31% increase in sales with 155 units sold versus the 118 units sold in January.
In a statement, AVID President Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo (in photo below) said, “AVID ended 2020 on a high note. And while we acknowledge that recovery will not come quickly, we remain focused on taking ‘baby steps’ at all fronts of our respective businesses and count on government to heed our call for a more comprehensive, long-term approach to reopening the economy by creating more job opportunities, upgrading infrastructure and logistics, and improving the ease and cost of doing business.”
