The commercial vehicle (CV) segment led the first-quarter sales growth with a huge 354% increase in year-to-date (YTD) sales. Hyundai was the top-selling CV brand, moving a total of 418 units.
AVID reported a 7% decrease in the passenger car (PC) segment with 4,242 units sold versus the 4,567 in the first quarter of 2020. However, in March 2021, the PC sales grew by 34% with 1,372 units sold versus the 1,026 units sold in March 2020. Suzuki led the PC segment with a total of 2,067 units sold. It was followed by Hyundai with 1,484 units sold.
In the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment, AVID recorded a 13% increase, moving a total of 11,198 units versus the 9,895 units in the same period last year. Ford dominated the segment once again with 4,786 units sold. It was followed by Suzuki, which sold a total of 2,628 units. Hyundai took the third spot, moving a total of 1,870 units since the start of the year.
In a statement, AVID President Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo (in photo below) said, “The slow uptick of PC is a result of continued low consumer confidence. But let us not discount the commendable performances of LCV and CV, and the hardworking teams that drive them. We see these two segments as our industry’s lifesavers as they lend indispensable support to the country’s revitalized infrastructure development programs.”
