Beep cards can now be reloaded at new LRT-1 food merchant

MANILA: Commuters can now reload Beep cards at new merchants  which were welcomed by the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) and AF Payments, Inc. (AFPI) at the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1). 

Passengers use Beep cards to pay for fares at LRT Lines 1, 2, and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT), among the cards' other functions. Paying for the train rides is done by swiping the cards on the stations' turnstiles. Reloading of the cards is conducted at loading booths in the stations. 

Food stall franchise Master Siomai is the launch merchant partner of LRMC and AF Payments for Beep cards. The participating food kiosks are present at the following LRT-1 stations: Baclaran, EDSA, and Balintawak. 

At the Master Siomai kiosks in these stations, passengers can add a load denomination of any value, without the additional convenience fee compared to other Beep loading partners, according to a release. 

To process payments, the LRT-1 Beep merchants use a portable Standalone Payment and Loading Device, which works without the need for any external processing system.

These devices enable faster and more accurate payment transactions. The devices also allow more hygienic payment, as the passenger and merchant avoid holding coins and loose change, the release added. 

LRT-1 passengers can also use Beep cards to buy food from Master Siomai. 

"Contact-less transactions have become part of the new normal for a safer and more convenient travel experience, LRMC Corporate Communications and Customer Relations Head Jacqueline Gorospe said. 

"We came up with this initiative putting in mind not just our commuters, but also our station merchants which will enable them to create operational efficiencies leading to better customer service."
