BMW 'electrifies' PH-retailed X5

MANILA: SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation — distributor of BMW vehicles in the Philippines — has officially launched the electrified version of the BMW X5.

Set to replace the diesel-powered option, the new BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport, is equipped with the European luxury marque’s advanced plug-in hybrid mill that guarantees more power, efficiency, and emissions-free range.

The model’s formal launch followed the recent preview conducted by the San Miguel Corporation-led distributor.

Here are the notable details about the BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport.

Exterior

The BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport measures 4,935 millimeters (mm) long, 2,044 mm wide, and 1,755 mm tall — with a 214-mm ground clearance and a 2,975-mm wheelbase. 

At its fore is the familiar kidney iconic glow with vertical air curtains, a lower air intake, decorative trim in pearl-like chrome design and triangular apertures on its outer portions.

It also comes with glossy roof rails and 21-inch alloy Y-spoke wheels wrapped in run-flat tires.

Interior

The BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport boasts a contemporary,  tech-filled cabin.

Greeting occupants inside the vehicle is the BMW Widescreen Display sitting at the dashboard. Designed to reduce physical buttons inside the vehicle, the said feature enjoins the 12.3-inch digital driver with a 14.9-inch central touchscreen.

Complementing the BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport’s modern look are luxurious, comfortable, and convenient appointments such as the following:

Powertrain

Propelling the BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport is a six-cylinder in-line 3.0-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor. This combo can dish out as much as 489 horsepower (hp) and torque of up to 700 Newton-meters. Power is sent to the wheels via the eight-speed Steptronic Sport Transmission.

The aforementioned set-up allows the vehicle to run 100 kilometers per hour (kph) from standstill in 4.8 seconds and reach peak speeds up to 250 kph.

In addition, the electric motor is mated to a 25.7-kilowatt-hour battery that lets the vehicle cover an emissions-free range of 100-118 kilometers (km) based on Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure.

Guaranteeing stability and comfort are the adaptive two-axle air suspension that comes with self-leveling capabilities and electronically-controlled dampers. Ride height can be adjusted through the various drive modes and a dedicated button within the cockpit.

The BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport’s halts and declarations are assured by its M Sport braking system.

BMW has also significantly improved its automated driving and parking systems with the X5 xDrive50e M Sport, which now include:

• Front-collision warning system (which can now detect cyclists, pedestrians or oncoming traffic)

• Emergency stop assistant
• Lane change assistant
• Merging Assistant

Further, the vehicle’s Parking Assistant Professional lets automated parking into and out of spaces and complete maneuvers over a distance of up to 200 meters to be controlled from outside the car using the My BMW App on an Apple iPhone.

The new BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport has a digital key that lets owners lock and unlock the vehicle using ultra-wideband (UWB) radio technology, which is compatible with iOS or Android-run devices.

Packaged with a portable flexi charger, a five-year comprehensive BMW warranty (or 200,000 km whichever comes first), and an eight-year warranty for the electric battery (or 120,000 km whichever comes first), the new BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport can be had P6.99 million and is available in the following body colors:
