BMW raises speculation around rumoured electric i6 car
MANILA: Italian website, Autoblog.it has hinted at a possible new BMW i6 to make its debut sometime in 2024. The BMW i6 will be the German’s automaker’s first all-electric sports sedan.
BMW’s involvement in the electric vehicle (EV) segment has mostly been focused on creating electrified versions of their existing models. One of their highly popular models, the X3, is already slated to unveil an electric version this coming 2020.
The BMW i6 is reported to be the automaker’s bet against rising electric sports cars Audi e-tron GT, Mercedes-Benz EQS, and Porsche Taycan.
Various sketches and renders have already circulated online over what the i6 will potentially look like. Based on what BMW already revealed when they attended the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the i6 will be a four-door coupe.
Autoblog.it added that the i6 will probably carry two electric motors — one for each axle. The Italian auto website speculated power output to produce between 201 hp and 335 hp, as is typical for an M Performance model.
The design was heavily inspired by the automaker’s BMW I Vision Dynamics concept, on which the BMW i4 is also based. Auto journalists have expressed apprehensions regarding this since both models will be virtually the same.
BMW has already confirmed that the i4 will be an electric 4 Series Gran Coupe. This has raised speculation that the i6 might not even go into development since it would become redundant.
BMW has already confirmed numerous electric vehicle models that will be in production in the coming years. After the iX3 in 2020, the iNEXT and i4 are next for debut in 2021. The automaker is also currently working on the BMW 5 Series electric which is especially for the EV segment.
Various sources have already expressed that there is no i6 currently in the works. For those who are eagerly anticipating the BMW i6’s debut, we advise that you take the news with a grain of salt.
