Brace yourselves for the 2020 Nissan Almera
MANILA: Recent years have been pretty good for Nissan in both the Philippines and the ASEAN region. Moreover, the Japanese automaker has also been accumulating high sales number around the globe. In order to bring a breath of fresh air in the market and give the sales a boost, Nissan has been quite busy rolling out newer and facelifted models.
With that said of the all-new Almera, Altima, Sylphy are long due in the Philippines. However, the brand new Almera might just be landing on the Filipino shores sooner than we expected.
While we have already seen the spy shots of the 2020 Almera, the production of the B-segment sedan will kick off at Samut Prakan, Thailand by the end of the year. Thailand Motor Expo, which is also set to transpire in the month of November 2019, i.e., the latter part of the year, we expect Nissan to display the updated sedan at the mega event. As always,
Thailand should be the first of the ASEAN countries to get its hands on the 2020 Nissan Almera with Malaysia and the Philippines following up slowly and steadily. It is yet not known whether or not the Philippine facility that assembles the current-gen Almera will produce the latest iteration of the B-segment sedan.
Speaking of the mechanicals on the 2020 Nissan Almera, the American-spec version gets its juices from a 1.6-litre motor. The Thai-model, on the other hand, might come housing a 1.2-litre engine powerhouse that will allow the newest iteration of the sedan to adhere to the 'Low Cost Green Car' norms in Thailand. We expect the Philippine-spec to feature a 1.5-litre engine, though. We might also see a continuously variable transmission replacing the four-speed automatic unit that is found on the current model.
So, will the arrival of the 2020 Nissan Almera help Nissan in attracting even more customers? Well, the task will be a tough one as other B-segment sedans like the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and the Honda City are also set to undergo revision very soon. The stronghold of the Toyota Vios in the Philippine automobile space is also something that will affect the performance of the all-new Almera in the country.
