Singapore is a spiritual center where east and west, nature and technology, and the past and the future collide.
The Bugatti W16 Mistral blends in perfectly in a city of high structures, stunning buildings, and timeless culture. Much like Singapore embraces its history amid a resolutely modern environment, the Bugatti design team drew inspiration for the W16 Mistral's design from the classic elegance of the 1934 Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid.
Dubbed as the “Garden City,” Singapore best captures the spirit of latitude by fusing it with the total freedom and sense of adventure that come from driving the ultimate roadster from Bugatti. The Bugatti W16 Mistral made several pit stops on the island, fittingly connecting the hyper sports car to its valued surroundings. With its 250-acre biodiversity nature park, the iconic Gardens by the Bay, a massive, internationally known showcase of horticultural excellence, has become an important part of the Singapore experience.
The Bugatti W16 Mistral also visited Singapore's Central Business District is also home to massive buildings that blend in seamlessly with the city's serene natural environment.
The Bugatti W16 Mistral also blended in perfectly with the Victoria Concert Hall and the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, which strikingly contrast some of the diversity that makes Singapore a special and unique island.
“The world has looked on in admiration as Singapore has developed such a strong economy and become a truly enviable place to live, and it is no surprise it is now home to so many ultra-high net worth individuals. We know from our recently opened showroom that there is massive interest in Bugatti in Southeast Asia, so it is a genuine privilege to be able to bring the W16 Mistral here. As with Singapore itself, this incredible car demonstrates there is no limit to what can be achieved when there is an unquenchable desire to succeed,” Bugatti Middle East and Asia Regional Director Kostas Psarris stated.
The Bugatti Singapore Showroom hosted a private customer event during the Bugatti W16 Mistral's stay. The stunningly immersive showroom, which opened in 2021 as a result of a collaboration with luxury automotive retailer Wearnes, was the ideal display venue for the Bugatti W16 Mistral, with many visitors in awe of the roadster's timelessly exquisite look.
The Bugatti W16 Mistral is the W16 engine's final road-going model. The Bugatti W16 Mistral boasts performance unlike any other open-top car that has come before as it is built around the ultimate 1,600hp version of the W16 engine. To accommodate the new open-top design, the previous monocoque was not simply cut off above the A-pillars; rather, it was reengineered and molded to give the vehicle a more rounded shape without sacrificing performance.
A car like the Bugatti W16 Mistral involves meticulous application of the brand's “Form Follows Performance” design philosophy, with each component conceived not only to establish new standards for aesthetics, but to also play a role in achieving new levels of performance.
The Bugatti W16 Mistral's four turbochargers and four-wheel drive are subtly referenced in the intricately shaped headlights' four-light signature. Its three-dimensional surface also serves as an aerodynamic support that improves aerodynamic drag by channeling air through the light and out through the wheel arch. One intake can fully feed the high temperature engine radiator, thanks to the bigger horseshoe grille, freeing up the two side intakes to solely supply air to the intercoolers.
The X-taillight, on the other hand, has the function of venting the side oil coolers through ducts connecting the triangular negative space in between the X beams to the side radiators. As a result, a pressure drop is formed between the side intakes and the outlets at the rear of the Bugatti W16 Mistral, helping manage the W16's mid-temperature cooling circuit effectively.
The W16 Mistral's interior is modeled after the Bugatti Chiron and has been carefully crafted to provide an environment that is not only luxurious, but also functional enough to ensure that all information is clearly visible at speeds of up to 420kph.
The Bugatti W16 Mistral embodies the essence of the V-shaped windscreen of the Grand Raid transformed into a contemporary work of art. The Bugatti W16 Mistral's curved windscreen gives the impression of wrapping over the A-pillars and integrating smoothly into the side windows, giving the car a “visor” effect that alluded to its motorsport-level performance. The windscreen is just curved enough to achieve the rounded visor look without obstructing the driver's view.
The newly designed door panels are covered in intricately woven leather that was rigorously tested and made to Bugatti quality standards with the intention of regular use over the course of a century. The gear shifter is made from a solid block of aluminum and incorporates a touch of wood and an amber inset with Rembrandt Bugatti's renowned “dancing elephant” sculpture locked within. This pays homage to the W16 Mistral's legendary predecessors.
All 99 units of the Bugatti W16 Mistral were already sold out before it was even officially unveiled. Customizations will begin this year, and delivery will start in 2024.
