At the launch event, BYD unveiled the Yangwang U8 and Yangwang U9, both of which would include e4 technology. According to BYD, e4 is the first quad motor independent drive technology platform to be mass-produced in China. It uses quad motor independent vector control technology to allow precise control of the vehicle's four-wheel dynamics. What are the target performance figures of the Yangwang U9?
The Yangwang U9 is a supercar that intends to reach 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds. According to BYD, Yangwang's R&D team used cutting-edge technologies to create the U9's ultimate safety body construction, which allows for both comfortable city driving and track-bound acceleration. At a launch event held at its Shenzhen headquarters, BYD unveiled the Yangwang brand. According to its chairman and president Wang Chuanfu, the brand would be the first to utilize a number of the BYD Group's leading technology.
At the occasion, BYD highlighted the e4 technology platform, which it claimed will serve as the foundation for all upcoming vehicles under the Yangwang brand.
According to BYD, e4 is the first quad motor independent drive technology platform to be mass-produced in China. It uses quad motor independent vector control technology to allow precise control of the vehicle's four-wheel dynamics. To demonstrate this technology, BYD started the launch ceremony by having an SUV enter in crabwalk mode.
Explained by BYD, the e4 power system, which has a four-motor independent drive as its core, totally alters the perception, decision-making, and execution characteristics of NEVs while upending the capability system of earlier fuel cars. The ET concept car by BYD, which was inspired by the flawless control of the cheetah's posture in the high-speed state, debuted the technology's prototype 20 years ago.
According to BYD, the vehicle's four independent motors drive each of its four wheels, similar to the cheetah's four strong and independent legs, improving both performance and safety.
In comparison to conventional fuel-powered vehicle powertrains, e4 technology's more perceptive electric drive system can independently alter the vehicle's four-wheel dynamics at millisecond speeds to better control body posture. Additionally, this increases the vehicle's safety redundancy by enabling it to quickly and safely stop following a single tire rupture by adjusting the torque of the remaining three wheels at a rate of 1,000 times per second.
According to BYD, models with e4 technology offer IP68-rated protection for their vital systems and can include extrication and emergency flotation features with four-wheel independent vectoring.
With a maximum motor speed of 20,500 rpm, the platform can give the car more than 1,100 horsepower. The car can brake from a speed of 100 km/h in 40 meters thanks to the quad-motor drive technology's independent positive and negative torque output capacity. According to BYD, the technology also enables the car to perform a flexible turn-in-place function on high-traction roads like tarmac.
At the launch event, BYD unveiled the Yangwang U8 and Yangwang U9, both of which would include e4 technology.
A tough off-road SUV that is more than five meters long and two meters wide, the Yangwang U8 is the brand's first production model.
The vehicle will cost $145,500 and has a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of less than four seconds. According to BYD, the Yangwang U8 possesses the performance, security, and dependability of a serious off-road SUV, as well as intelligent extrication and emergency avoidance capabilities in difficult driving situations.
On the other side, the Yangwang U9 is a supercar that intends to reach 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds.
According to BYD, Yangwang's R&D team used cutting-edge technologies to create the U9's ultimate safety body construction, which allows for both comfortable city driving and track-bound acceleration.
The Yangwang U8 and Yangwang U9 are both intriguing products for the Chinese NEV market, albeit BYD did not provide a release date or any other information. In order to establish itself as a premium brand apart from BYD, the Yangwang brand will launch its own sales channels.
