BYD Tang 7-seater PHEV introduced in the Philippines
MANILA: Plug-in hybrids and Philippines can be so relatable. Now we have yet another such eco-friendly car up the block, thanks to BYD Philippines. This new hybrid car, the BYD Tang, brings the company to the hybrid segment in this country.
The head of the official distributor of BYD cars in Philippines (Solar Transport and Automotive Resources Corp), Mr. Mark Andrew Tieng has said that the company consists of a bunch of passionate and enthusiastic people who have given in to the mission of providing excellent technology and innovation to the car buyers, besides just the commitment to provide environment sustainability.
The BYD Tang plug-in hybrid is flanked by a muscular and sculpted exterior design and sharp aesthetics. The front portion gets a lot of chrome-embellished borders on the grille and sleek projector headlamps. The fog lamps are placed on a pool of black plastic cladding lower down on the bumper. It is deceptively big and is over 4.8 meters in length.
Speaking about the mechanism, the BYD Tang has a turbocharged motor under the hood. The 2.0-litre, four-pot engine is capable of making a huge power of 500 PS. However, this humongous power production is a result of the assistance from two electric motors. The company even claims that the electric motors are good enough to get the vehicle to cruise for around 80 kilometres on just electricity, without the need for the ICE. This electric cruising brings about zero noise, no vibrations, and absolutely zero emission.
Despite being a hybrid, the BYD Tang is no less than a sporty car at its heart. On the Hybrid Electric Sport mode, the car has the capacity of hitting the 0-100 kmph acceleration in less than five seconds. The power is sent down to the wheels via a dual-clutch 6-speed transmission gearbox.
The BYD Tang is no less in any department and could be the next big thing in the plug-in hybrid scene in the Philippines. The 360-degree view system, leather upholstery, panoramic sunroof, seven-seater layout and a touchscreen infotainment system are enough to leave behind nothing else to be desired for.
